Hey, Hi, How is yall? Names Charles and as my nickname implies my family and I moved to Twin Falls, ID in October from Soldotna, Alaska. Many reasons and long explainations. After moving here I noticed that the $$ seems to be in trucks and I would love a local at home every night gig (no 1bad not moving further south, but thanks) but I need 2 years OTR first so I started looking and investgating. I am not new to the trucking world (2 dads use to OTR 48) but I am new to driving something other then a 4 wheeler. I happened upon JJ's Cargo express thread and moved to JJ's Place and wow yeas I read all 63 pages of JJ's Place and about 30 of thr CX thread. I feel like I am reading an interactive book and can't wait for the next chapter BUT, I want in. There is a school callled "Top Gun" in Twin and they kinda finace ($2000 down, the other $2500 payed over a years time) it allows me to wotk while I train but my current job is kinda might pay the rent. Thought about Cargo Express just to get started or Swift. JJ, CD, any one HELP. My current job would pay $2400/month IF I work 16hrs/day & 6 days/wk. With many places not taking Grads and most places wanting 2+ years, I am willing to do about anything. I figured if I could pull at least 2500 miles/WK # .25pm I would be bring home nearly 3 times what I make now. Any Help would be great 1 stipulation, I am not moving. Farther south is to warm and well I just moved from ALASKA, it been -5 to 10+ for the last 3 weeks. Sorry Jess this weather is nice Tshirt and shorts weather for me. Sorry for the long winded and thanks

Um Jess, did you ever get your permit?
PH, 1Bad sorry for your loss. I lost my mom 8 years ago and Grandpa this year, my heart to you both. -
JJ you ever hear of Dot Foods out of Burley?
Ever make it to Twin?
Love to buy you and the little lady a cup. -
*sighs and shakes head* at other drivers inability to find or turn in problems. Have been chasing an air leak on this tlr I picked up. Finally found a nice, quiet place and found it. I have a small hole, in the top of the air tank itself. No wonder it dumps air so fast if tlr brake not set. Tlr repair shop, here I come.........tomorrow.

Twin falls is up there a ways. But luckily not too far off the I-80/84 corridor.
Even with that there will be many company's that will not hire that far north.
I would look into a training company to get going, unless you know of a company that hires from that area that takes new students.
Look at Central or Swift. Both have gone to better training over the past few years. Especially swift.
It would be up to you if you want to pay for that school or the company school at that point.
Looks like the charge is about the same either way.
You will most likely not be able to find a home every night position in an OTR company. You may be able to find a local company doing construction type hauling that will hire out of school also. This is always a possibility, and would get you home every day.
Most of those are straight trucks though. As soon as you step up to class 8 combination trucks you will find most company's insisting on experience. -
Thanks CD, lots of people say to stay away from Swift but, I need experience and schooling. Almost willing to do anything, I do want to do some OTR before the kids get bigger. Any suggestions on learning flatbed, lots of that around here for local, (must have 2y & tarping/straping exp)

I hear more good than bad about Maverick and they're a flatbed outfit. Might check them out.

Maverick is a good company from what I hear. TMC, depends who you talk to. They have great equipment, very clean, seem to have a lot of freight. If I was wanted to be a skateboarder, I would look at both, but TMC is more like a swift.
