    Bull $#i+

My total medical cost for the past 10 years, has been under $2000....paid out of my pocket. Any premiums I paid to an insurance company...was pure profit, for them.

I can smoke and work at the same time.

Unlike liberal #$$holes who have issues chewing gum and walking at the same time.

I paid premiums all my life and have yet to file a health insurance claim from smoking.

How soon they forget the thousands the people paid in over their life time. Insurance paid $12K, patient paid in $60K which interest accumilated on. Do the math and count everything. The average smokers take 20-30 years or more to have related health issues.
Lung cancer, now on SSI and Medicare. More costs, but the person paid in $80K in gov't payments for these programs. One year and they don't have to worry about them.

And what are they saying by linking smoking to breaks? Are they going to eliminate all breaks as well? What garbage.

Why stop there? Should also stop highering obese people, That should lower claims substationaly. Also dont hire anyone over the age of 30, this should also lower claims. Dont hire anyone who has a family history of illnesses, this should also lower claims.

Infact they should just set it up, So if you do file a claim, it voids the contract, you get fired and the claim is denied. This will defenatly lower costs. And the best part is they can still collect the premiums.

Aparantly as the article sugests non smokers dont take breaks.

Oh no...it gets better........ my health ins. at work makes me certify the NO ONE in my home ( on policy ) uses tobacco products or you pay the higher ( 30% ) premium.

AND... if they find out different, I had to agree to be tossed off the policy.

Ha!! Bring what you got beech !

    Anybody got a light?

I feel your pain. But....... my insurance will increase by 50% if we smoke. Which we do.

But there is a light at the end of the tunnel, for us.

My current policy, is less than 35% in cost, than my previous policy. With equal or better coverage than past policies. And yes, it's from a reputable company. I'm in a larger pool. :)

We are being offered free (LOL) smoking cessation help. By accepting it, we lock our insurance into the "low" rate for 6 months. They will provide us with whatever help (patches, gum, etc) we need during this period. Zero out of pocket cost for us.

While I have managed to reduce the amount I smoke over the past months. I have not quit. So we will both be enrolling in the program, to reduce our cost of meds and future insurance rates. Hopefully.

I like on insurance statements the doctor will try to charge five times the amount, yet settles for the lessor because of a network and agreed pricing. This is common practice. I guess the ones that don't have insurance get ripped off. Why not charge a fair amount and get paid a fair amount. The government needs to stop these greedy doctors and then the insurance companies wouldn't have to attack the little guy. Some might call this price gouging.

Yeah, my little visit to the ER cost me $5,500 and they want it paid in full right now. Like that's going to happen.

I smoke as well, and see the writing on the wall.

But I can see this happening at least at the better companies, where employment demand is high.

And while not PC today, who knows in 20 years - weight, cholesterol, etc ... as well.
