I believe so, I've seen some brand new with straight pipes. But, I wouldn't take my word for it, investigate further.

And that is a determining factor in his decision to buy the truck????:biggrin_25513:

Please explain how the straight pipes are going to enhance his profits?

    Jimbo56 and Jarhed1964 Thank this.

I didn't read anything about it being a determining decision in the question. I read it as he was just asking a question. I think you may be jumping to conclusions.

Yes. You can straight pipe a 389. It does take double walled pipes made specifically for DPF engines, though. They're not cheap, and I know firsthand from a friend that the Dynaflex straights for the 389's are not holding up to the test of time.

When those DPF units run a regen while you are sitting idle. They get everything hot as all get out. My '08 398 you could see the pipes on the output of the DPF and elbows glowing red hot at night.

If he is trying to gain performance by straight piping it. Forget it. The DPF is your major restriction. It begins to clog once you start to run the engine. With the covers on the stock pipes compared to straight. I'd keep the stock ones. He'll need to save the money he saves on expensive pipes for the DPF cleaning or replacement when it comes due.

I think PBL's buddy might be asking if he can straight pipe the DPF too. I think the simple answer is "yes." The slightly more honest answer is "It would be a huge pain(and expensive to do)," and the answer in the form of a question would be "Why would he buy a 389 with a DPF engine when he can buy a 389 glider with a better, non-DPF engine for $30k less?"
