I just returned from Iraq in July. I have a pretty decent job now selling insurance. I make good money in fact I would probably make more money doing this job, but I just have had the urge to try trucking. Im 24 yo great shape and love to travel/drive. I do have one problem though my MVR isnt very good at all in fact its pretty terrible. In 05 I lost my license for driving without insurance and hitting someone. I didnt get my License back until April 08. I was arrested 3 times for driving without a License. Should I wait until at least April when some of this falls out of the 5 year window or is there a trucking company I can try? Thanks for any advice and help in advance.

Agreed! Don't be that guy at the truck stop bellyaching about: "Man, I made more money working (insert job here)".

If you REALLY REALLY want to drive, research around to find out who offers inexpensive and quality training for your CDL. To answer your other question, wait until April.

Well, as you can see the gerneral answer is stay when you are making money.

However if you are determined to go trucking, I would wait until your MVR has cleaned up. Be forwarned, money is tight in trucking. There are a ton of negatives ranging from idiot dispatchers to living in a walk-in closet.

But to be honest, I've been out of the rig on a local job for 10 months. Right now when I see the rigs, I'm jonesing for the road.....

stay where you are at, you will do just fine as a salesman. right now you are glowing in the dark like a dental patient that's been x-rayed way too many times and you are setting off too many alarms....

good luck, i wish you and your family a Happy Thanksgiving Holiday.

Yeah I would give some time to let the MVR clear up.

As for weather to drive a truck or not, only you can make that decision. You will have people here like me that tell you to go for it, then you'll have people say stay away from it.

I look at it this way. Would you rather make more money and risk not being happy, or give up some money to be happy and enjoy your job? For me it's a no-brainer because my happiness is very important to me. I mean, it's hard to work a job if you aren't happy or know you could be happier doing something else.

Aren't these big life decisions just a blast?!?!:biggrin_25521:

Honestly guys money isnt the issue for me. as long as i pay the bills its cool and i need less than a 1000 a month to do that. Im more concerned with the mvr record and the 3 arrest for driving without a license i figured being a vet might get me some leniency. I drove an MRAP 80000 pound vehicle in Iraq but guess not.

    Ain't that the truth.

They were all "captains of industry" at one time.

But through no fault of their own, and unforseeable circumstances, they ended up here.
