Methyl Acrelate fire in Texas

    It's in a transport and on fire North of Houston on US 59. It's just north of Cleavland and 5 miles of highway are closed in both directions.

    News reports it's so bad that responders are holding back and not fighting the fire.

    I'll add more if I see more..........

    I would imagine they are holding back because of the type of chemical involved.

    Many of the chemicals respond badly with water and sometimes with foam. Sometimes it is better to just let them burn out.

    I use to work with methyl acrylate. That stuff will take your breathe away and make you gag. We had to wear respirators. I can see why they had to back off so far.

    Latest Intel says it was Goendyke and it was an drive axle fire. No product was released however tractor is junk and likely the trailer too.

    Whew!!
