I go by the handle, "MdBluecrab". I wanted to start a thread for all of us truckers, to write down your daily activities and vent when needed. A thread like this can give out a lot more info on a trucking company by actually showing what type of work we do on a daily basis, sort of like a personal diary or a ships log.
You can give out your company name or just write about what type of freight you haul (Flatbed, refer, etc.).
I work for Grayson Mitchell, out of Emporia, VA. I live in Southern Maryland, just outside of Washington, DC. I pull a flatbed and we run mostly east of the Mississippi. I'll start my daily activity at the end of the day on Monday.
Have a good day and stay safe.

I use to live in Southern MD. I grew up in St. Marys county.
But the cost of living is too high for me. Especially when I make the same money no matter where I live.
So I moved out over 10 years ago now. -
I was born in DC, raised mostly in PG County (Oxon Hill/Glass Manor). Moved out here in 2000 (Charles County/White Plains). Wife works for the Federal Government, so that helps immensely with any cost of living adjustments.
I'm home most weekends and a night or two during the week. Average anywhere from 2400-3000 miles a week. We get paid .41 cpm. more if you load from VA. heading north and even more if you deliver in any of the 5 boroughs of NY. Over sized loads pay even more, starting at .55 cpm. and goes up, depending on the length of the load. Running empty pays you .31 cpm.
Where are you now?
I just noticed that you're in Jamestown, NY. Cost of living is cheaper up there? -
Not much today. Called in at 9am, they had me drive down to Ameristeel in Petersburg, VA. to pick up a load of steel that I deliver Wednesday in Marseilles, IL. Took 3 hrs. to load, headed up to Ashland, VA. ate, then hit the bunk for a few hours. Getting ready to wash up, get coffee and hit the road.
I hope everybody had a safe and prosperous day.The Challenger Thanks this. -
Mdbluecrab,
As I was coming out of the Walmart here in Elizabeth City (Hwy 17) I was able to talk with a driver for Grayson Mitchell. He had parked and was heading in to grab a bite to eat, I believe.
Very nice guy who took the time to speak with me not only about Grayson, but trucking in general. He had nothing but nice things to say about the company and spoke highly of Mr Mitchell. I really enjoyed the short time I spoke with him... real nice... down to earth fellow. He indicated he has been trucking for over 30 years. He spoke briefly with me about load securement, DOT, younger drivers, etc.
I plan to call the company tomorrow to let them know about this Hands professionalism... unfortunately I could not write down his unit number as I was on my motorcycle.
I do remember what he was hauling and the time frame...maybe they can track him down through the Qualcomm and pass on my praise.

The phone number to Mitchell is 1-800-883-6321. Just give the time, date and place, they'll find out who it was by Qualcomm and relay the message for you.
Mitchell is a pretty good company to work for. Decent trucks, that they let you fix up almost any way you like. Trucks run any where from 68-72 mph. You get home a night or two during the week and almost every weekend. Their only downfall, as with most trucking companies, is their dispatch except here, they don't pre-plan. They don't start looking for another load until you're empty. You'll sit anywhere from 5 mins. to 2 hours or longer, waiting on a load but I still bring home a decent, if not, a very good pay check each week.
I haven't been posting on here because I usually post on Facebook and it's just to much. Thought I could do it but by the time I finish posting on Facebook, it's bed time, lol.
Good luck and stay safe.
