As long as you don't try and hide the hypertension, and can pass a DOT physical. You should be OK.

Lighten up Nevada. Harleygirl admitted it was a mistake on her part. She didn't seem to be begging for anyone's sympathy either. Just stating a fact, so others can take it for what it maybe worth. With all due respect, I see no real purpous in your post, or the many others like it. I value posts like Harleygirl's because they come from first hand experience. Whereas a good many posts on this and other sites, too often just come straight from the echo-chamber. I'm real new to this, but when I read a post like H.G.'s, I don't think, "Oh, here's someone loking for my sympathy." I think, "Okay, I wonder how they were able to get over on her, so I don't make the same mistake." So I ask questions so I can learn. Wouldn't that kinda be the purpous of the newbie section of this site?

Actually, I am completely amazed that from the less that 30 words HarleyGirl posted on the subject, you can come to any conclusions. I am not sure how a Swift student from over 4 years ago would still be paying for their actions now. I would have to have alot more details than the amount she provided to be able to make any kind of assesment of her or her situation.

Possibly, some of you are more confident in your ability to assess a situation based on that amount of information than I am, but I did not manage to derive any great or meaningful insights into Swift's training program from her posting.

I have been surfing through the posts trying to find some information that could be useful. I am attending a truck driving school and am 3 weeks in and only 3 more weeks to go.
It is so hard to know what company is good and which are bad. I was denied from Werner and TMC and very disappointed. Werner said I could reapply in 6 months but the information will be the same. I have 2 misdemeanors from 1998. I am feeling the misdemeanors are being treated like murder convictions I was only fined no jail and no probation. TMC did not give a reason for not accepting my app.
Now I have acceptance from CR England. But I am also trying - TRL, US Express, TransAm, Coveant, and Swift. Everything is so confusing it's like trying to find a good college. On the posts here I see so many negative posts. I know nothing about trucking and I do not want to be taken advantage of by anyone. All and any insight from experienced truckers to other newbies would greatly be appreciated. Thank you all.

Yeah, 10-4 Burkey. I pm'ed her asking that she flesh it out for all to see. Or those of us that have a genuine interest in what she has to say.

You're exactly correct, the purpose is to learn. When someone makes an off the wall comment like "I got ripped off" it serves no purpose...other than to bash a company. She didn't state any facts, as you posted. Please correct me if I missed her "facts". There's not much to learn from a comment like that. The problem with the majority of comments made about companies is you only hear one side of the story. Too many times, even that one side doesn't reveal the WHOLE story. So, I wouldn't take everything you LEARN here as the truth. There's usually more to the story than most devulge.

    Day 18

On the road finally, spent 4 days on the shifting range and started road work on thursday.

They have us driving a 25 mile stretch of city driving, traffic lights and school zones every couple of blocks.

We have also been practicing our turns in an empty industrial park but we get the real practice on the streets.

Doing ok so far, have not hit any curbs or any things. My instructor has also allowed me to get on and off the interstate and merge into traffic without an accerlation lane.

Still miss a gear or two especially when trying to downshif quickly for a light but I get it stopped in time.

Had two other students with a different trainer get taken off the road by the instructor. He had to pull the johnson bar twice on both of them. Told them they dont drive again until they learn to stop and look in All the mirrors.

Our DPS exam is on Thursday and we will be practicing the route this comming week

So Far I have been happy with SWIFT, their training seems be intensive and good. I will know more after orientation in a couple of weeks.

I will let you all know later in the week how the exam goes and where I go from here

Thanks for the update Mr. GJ, keep 'em coming. I read so many horror stories about Swift, it will be interesting to hear how someone like yourself with a positive realistic attitude does.

Last Day! Take the DPS test tomorrow

We have about 4 in our class that should not be allowed to operate bicyles and I can not see how they will ever pass the exam.

One student never uses his mirrors, he told his instructor that he "knows" where his trailer is by "feel".

One student still can not down shift, he just drops it into neutral until he is going slow enough for 5th gear or stops.

One student, he failed the exam twice last week and spent another 5 days with on the road practice was driving so recklessly that the instructor had to pull the tractor and trailer valves 3 times, finally took to the student back to the school and left him there.

One student keeps letting go of the wheel and throwing his hands in the air when he gets stressed. He has also stopped dead in traffic so he can "think" about what he has to do next.

I am just hoping that IF they pass, they are never in the same state with me, my family, friends or any of you nice people here.

I personally don't forsee any problems.

After "graduation" tomorrow, we go home for 4 days then to orientation for 2 1/2 days then on the road for 6 weeks with our mentor.

I will be taking my laptop with me and will do my best to keep you all informed as to the SWIFT experience.

I will post this weekend the results of our exams.

Hope to see you all soon on the road.

Wow, sounds like a couple scary prospects in there with you. Some people get very nervous when they are being taught, or being tested, so hopefully they will be ok if they do get their CDL. For their trainers sake, I hope so.
