Orientation is over, here we go!!! I would recommend to all, no matter which company you go to, treat orientation like a week long job interview. Don't be late, look presentable, don't argue, don't debate the legality of the hiring paperwork, and for God's sake, don't fall asleep. If you can't stay awake in a seat, you won't stay awake on the road.
Conway orientation is back up to 4 days. It is a ton of paperwork, and very little driving, the last day before receiving hire packages is the Smith System of Defensive driving. I won't describe it here because I would not do it justice. But we took out some vans and put it into practice and it really is cool.
I will continue practicing through my finishing phase over the road, and will show it to my son when he closes in on driving age.
I will report from the road on the finishing phase as time permits. Looking forward!mustang970, venne and The Challenger Thank this. -
Good Luck and thanks for the updates. Start week 5 on the 4th so we are almost done. Can't wait.

RR, good to hear you old guys are off to the races. Be safe! Boomer, today I learned something very valuable! All truck driving schools are not equal. There are people here that can't figure out logs. There are 32 in the class. They say there will be people who don't return for a variety of reasons (tomorrow). We will see. Tomorrow we take our physical fitness tests. I will let you know how it goes. To all who are reading this thinking about a school. You better pick one that teaches logs in depth like crowder college. Just because you have electronic logs doesn't mean you don't need to know logs. If computer goes down you use paper logs.
The Challenger Thanks this. -
Thanks for letting me know. What time do you start in the mornings and what time do you finish at the end of the day?
-
Boomer,
Good luck on your test...you and Bob will do fine I am sure. Give us an update.
Deacon,
Finishers are telling us Crowder grads have a much higher success rate than other schools so your observations are accurate. I think we made good/lucky choices.
Got a fresh 70 available to me so I am just cooling my heals waiting on a dispatch. Could get the call any minute.
Seems funny sweating school not very long ago and now waiting for a dispatch. Didn't think this time would ever come and in the same breath it seems like it has gone very fast. I don't know how to describe it. Imagine that...Road Realtor is at a loss for words!!!
Be safe guys.

Thanks for the update RR. I am sure you learned how to wait while you spent your time at Crowder.. just find a picknick table
Keep us posted on your progress and keep safe !

Thanks for the thread, been very helpful! I should be starting Crowder Jan 24th or Feb 14th depending on how things go between now and then. Still have to get my permit and get pre-hired with Con-Way but I've started the process
-
Good luck Katey! Starting the process is the first step. It is a fun journey, enjoy it. I drove in dense fog, gale force winds, light snow, sleet, rain and freezing rain...all since yesterday. Crowder and the finishers prepared me for this and I am safe in Joplin tonight and heading to Laredo tomorrow am. Hopefully warmer there. This florida boy don't like cold!
Happy Holidays.
RRSpacecoast Thanks this. -
Watch out for the other guy.
