2004 mercedes OM460LA engine, would probable be Euro-III non EGR, with Temic Control unit (+ADM/FR inside cabine).

It is a good engine, reliable and powerfull, but... there are some specific parts this engine does not share with Actros engine and we have to wait them for 1-2 weeks, becouse this Engine is produced in Turkey and Brazil, not in Europe ore USA.

This engine is w/o Pump Unit Injectors, it is PLD fuel system. Cheapper to maintane and fix then Unit Injectors. Very good cold start.

This engine is pushrod designe, but four valves per cylinder, and additional decomressing valve (saves fuel). Lash ajustment is very easy. Head gasket replacement is so easy that driver can do it on road.

The only problem of OM457(12L) and OM460(12.7L) is parts supplyment delay.

ZF if good tranny for driver, but this is sufisticated german engeneering. Tranny is air controlled with 9 solenoids. Full synchro and may shift throught 3-4 gears up ore down depending on situation. But As-Tronic (Freedom line in the USA) is complicated and expencive.

This is first class transmission. Very smooth.

But when this tranny fails not so many workshops can help you.

Driving ZF Tranny inspect clutch release bearing every time you are under the truck. failed bearing may throw balls around that may damage to many things inside bellhousing. Especially with mercedes engine. Balls damage flightwheel tone ring and engine may stall (till you pull out Crankshaft pos. sensor) ore runs roughtly w/o cyl. ballance function.

I ran a Freightshaker with a MB4000 and autoshift (sadly). We had the clutch go out on our way running heavy to Nashville. Limped it in to deliver. It took over a week for a flywheel, and related parts for the clutch.

The MB4000 though was a pretty decent engine. Never could get good fuel economy out of them, even the manuals sucked for fuel mileage.
