Why would being directional to the front and rear of the rig be a problem?
most of the people you talk to are people ahead of you or behind you on the road....
You wont loose all your side direction just be more directional to front and back, where
like i said we talk most of the time anyway

I tried running single. I lost reception and transmit to the opposite, rear of the mirror that the antenna was mounted. Meaning when I tried putting it on the left side, I lost alot to the right rear of my truck. I tried the right side and lost performance to the left rear of the truck. Running cophased I had all the signal and transmit I could ask for out of my old connex 4300 HP. I was getting 20+ miles in most any direction. My cobra 29 stealth was hitting 10 miles give or take in any direction.

Antennas I have used are the wilson 5 ft silver loads and I am now using wilson 5000s on both mirror brackets.

Cophased antennas are not 75 ohm. Almost any two matching antennas can be cophased. The cophase harness presents a 50 ohm impedance to the radio. If you just connect the cables to a tee you will only see about 25 ohms at the radio making swr high. The cophase harness is specially made to act like a transformer. Even it isn't just a piece of coax. Cophasing will provide noticeable gain front and rear. This is why truckers used this configuration. It improved performance up and down the highway. However leaning your antennas forward at 45 degrees probably eliminates any improvement you might notice.

Cophasing is not as easy as cuting a coax .... the groundplane the spacing everything counts ....

On 52.525 FM I ran 2 cophased 1/4 wave wips with switching and found it not worth the trouble ...

well thats what i have been doing for years .. just like in the diagram thar off the back of my connexx 4300 i run that. off the 148 gtl in the bunk thats fed through the palomar 250 then to the sweet 16 its a straight shot to the whip i put up when i am parked..

on the co's i just run the 2 cables for the wil 2k whips both 18 foot 75 ohm coaxs to the t with 1 foot of 50 ohm cable to the radio.. thats how i have always dont it i always attain a low swr of 1.5 and never have had any problems with it... thats just my experience :biggrin_2558::biggrin_2558:

now relese the hounds everyone pick apart what works for me..:biggrin_25513::biggrin_25513::biggrin_25513:

    NO HOUNDS ...

You must have a very good groundplane if your running a pair of cb wips ....

I did it on 6 meter fm using 2 1/4 wave wips 1/4 wave apart and my SWR was about the same 1.5:1 and I did get some changes as I added or removed the phasing loops .....

NOW FOR THE HOUNDS .... GET HIM MAGGIE :biggrin_2559:

Well I drive a t6 has a really good ground plane everything from the doors to the body is all sheet metal unlike those new pieces of crap they have out there now, personally I don't use phasing loops. To much work lol . I just randomly string the cable all throughout the roof area away from electrical lines so I don't pick up any unwanted rf.

Not sure what they would charge...But once you get back around Dallas, over on I-45 in Ennis there is Jim's CB Shop at exit 249 that could help ya out...Ennis is just south of Dallas maybe 20 miles or so...

So if your coming in on I-35 you could get on I-20 east, go 2 or 3 exits down to I-45, then go south maybe 10 or 15 miles to Ennis and take the 249 exit, then turn right at the light...Jim's will be on your left next door to a small cafe.

(or look for a Ennis exit off I-35 and run over to I-45)

Call ahead and make sure they have time to do the job...Jim's CB Shop's phone number is: 972-878-0951
