I've been driving for six months, accident free, until recently. In the space of three weeks I managed to:
1. Bend a trailer rim after hitting a curb, causing a flat tire.
2. Break the mounts on the driver side fairing while hooking a trailer (landing gear was cranked all the way up and I didn't notice, causing the pin to jump the 5th wheel)
3. Break loose the landing gear on one side of the trailer by backing into a concrete pillar at a receiver.
I suspect they're going to let me go after the holiday weekend, Do all three of these accidents count as preventable, or are they considered rookie mistakes? Have I screwed myself out of a driving career with another carrier?
What counts as preventable accidents?

Oh man, that's a tough three weeks. Yeah, you may very well be let go. And yes, all 3 will be deemed preventable. Just keep your fingers crossed they don't report to DAC on ya.
-
rookie mistakes or experienced driver mistakes, they are/were all preventable.......they will stay with you on company file as preventable' s. as long as there weren't any cops involved, they should NOT show up on a DMV report. each 'accident' as i read your descriptions are all about $500.....
if you didn't get fired yet...........
have your resume` updated.
and be prepared to answer "YES" to the question, "list ANY accidents, and were you at fault"..... -
oh.....he'll be DAC'd......that's a given. possibly as "careless damaging company equipment" too.....
-
Depends! Not a good answer right? But it depends on your company as to whether they considered them accidents or incidents. Two of them 2 and 3, many would consider them incidents. Number 1, could go either way depending on several factors. Regardless your "luck" is being pushed pretty hard. A little "politicking" may help.
Good luck

wow all that damage in 3 weeks' i think you better start praying with that track record not looking good for you.
-
These are "incidents", preventable incidents. One is usually OK, but 3 in a week, yikes !.
-
Ya ever heard of schmoozing? This would be a good time to start. Good luck and be more watchful..its a MUST.

Curb? Shouldn't have been any reason to curb the trailer. Alway's keep watch and never let your gaurd down. When it doubt don't try it.
Tail tail sign's of a high trailer. Feel for the truck to squat when getting under it. If the nose of the trailer makes it to the center of the first drive axle (depending on where the fifth wheel is set) and you didn't feel the truck squat or hear the "slap" of the fifth wheel leveling out on the striker plate then that's good indication that the trailer is to high. Then again, whenever in doubt get out.
Backing into things. G.O.A.L... Never assume.
That's going to be a tough one. 3 in a 3 week period. -
All three were preventable. A preventable incident can be defined as one where you failed to do everything reasonable to prevent it. As an example, it is not reasonable to assume that a trailer is always going to be at the correct height, and in fact, most drivers will have a safeguard built into their procedure to make sure they check for this eventuality.
