A recruiter came to my school and said that I have 30 days after graduation to get hired or I will have to refresh. Anybody know the policy of: Prime, werner, or swift regarding the experation date of graduating students, any info of the other bottom feeding companies would be appreciated.

i can only give you a "generic" answer because companies have changed policies over time.

on average, you only have "up to" 90 days.....

you really NEED to call the companies for this, if you want an exact answer.

Yesterday! Now get to work!:biggrin_2559: Seriously though don't waste any time. Don't waste your time on the ones you listed either! Aim for the smaller companies. The more effort you have to put into getting hired then the better the company is to work for. Also look for the ones that aren't advertising as much. Don't follow the herd! Good luck!

I wouldn't waste too much time in finding a local job. Get a job over the road and then you can start looking locally. Slim to none in this economy someone is going to hire an inexperienced driver as opposed to an experienced one. Would you?

    eddytude Thanks this.

don't take chances.......give it just under 30 days. you would be very lucky to find anything local this time of year.

your best bet is to go into a place and ask for any job they will give you, take it, work hard, and eventually you'll be driving.

Thirty days is pushing it! Plus you are really hurting yourself being a new driver. You are going to feel as if you forgot everything once you do get to orientation. Go otr now, start looking for a local position after 3-6months. Ideally most local companies want at LEAST a year if not 2-3. Put yourself in their position. You own a $100,000 rig with $$$$$????? of freight on it. Your customers are even more valuable then that! You have a few guys to pick from. Guy who has been over the road, knows how to shift without grinding out tranny, has a decent DAC, has a good MVR and has driven a few million miles. Also has knowledge of keeping equipment maintained. Guy number two just learned how to back up straight, has never been in a big rig without a trainer, has no DAC, only info on MVR is in his car, can't shift through 3 gears without grinding two and half, still double clutches and basically has no clue whatsoever how to drive. Are you picking guy one or guy two? Better start looking at the OTR companies quickly! Stay away from the mega-carriers. Make sure you get a good trainer. Don't let them know you are only driving otr until you find a local job. Good luck!
