the "best truck" is one that has (say) under 200,000 miles, the shifter is NOT loose or sloppy, the interior isn't torn up or smells bad, all the gauges work, all the mirrors work (if powered and heated), and no serious dents, scrapes or scratches, and everything else works that is supposed to work.
you are a student. when you get a job, if you pick a job solely on what trucks they have in thier fleet, you could very well end up getting paid peanuts. the more expensive the trucks are, the more that company had to pay for them, right...?? this means (in some situations) a LOWER driver wage as those trucks are a higher cost factor to the company.
so in closing, the "best trucks"........are the ones you get put into and start your career.....you ain't got much of a choice.
as you said, "equipment is what gets the job done, right"...??
well ANY truck can get the job.......either a pretty truck or a plain-jane truck.......
do you wanna look pretty, or do you want to get the job done and GET PAID......?????
you want pretty.......buy your own truck, or work for a company that'll pay you squirrel food..... -
I used to drive an Aardvark (T-600). I hated the way that truck looked with a passion. They're just plain ugly and the T-660's are a vast improvement. That little truck was freaking awesome though. It never broke down, it cornered like a dream, accelerated like a Nitro-engined funny car, and could get into and out of places you wouldn't believe.
The best truck is the one that works...Doc Daniels Thanks this. -
The best truck is the one that is paid for.

If it doesn't work, you can't pay for it...

The one your butt is planted in rolling down the road.

If I decided to get a road job, equipment would be near the top of my want list, along with pay, and hometime.
If it ain't a KW (except T2000) a Pete, or an International 9900, I probably wouldn't talk to them. Don't want a Freightshaker of any kind, Volvo, Prostar, or anything else that's thrown away when used up. Picky? You bet! -
I prefer Peterbilt, but I would work wherever the money is at. Especially if I don't own the equipment.
-
as an experienced driver(s), you or i CAN be picky.......
as a student driver, you and the original poster can NOT BE picky...you either go to work, or stay home and continue to dream..........
but you already say you would work........ -
No matter what any super trucker tells you KW isnt the best and Pete isnt the best. They're just a truck on a frame with a different cab and hood. Only Mack sets itself apart , but thats in th fast lane to losing they're genuineness.
