Was just curious if attending and obtaining your CDL at an out of state academy is an option? If so, are there any academies around the country that are considered "top notch?" Also, does the WIA cover tuition if I attend a trucking company's training program? I'm set to attend training for a company in which I'll have to sign the all so popular "contract", but I'm just exploring all my options in the meantime, particularly the WIA. Thanks for any and all help.

Can't speak for all states, but here in Alabama WIA only covers in state training but does not include truck company academys......only community college programs which for the most part are pretty good here; or CDL mill schools which all pretty much stink.

    18wheelsofsteel Thanks this.

The Idea behind WIA is to get state residents back into the revenue stream for that state. While WIA is a federal program it is administered by the state. You will not get WIA money to attend an out-of-state school.

In the case of Truck Driving Schools they HAVE to be state accredited; this usually means Community Colleges, but some private schools have accreditation. The school I attended did.

Thanks alot for the answers, and after further review having to attend in-state makes sense. Appreciate the help.
