    I start Orientation at W/S on 12-13.. I can't wait. I've got 5 days left at "Get your CDL" school... I already know I'm not going to like being away from my family for weeks at a time, but at this point, it's way better than being unemployed. Put in your time, get some experience, and then look for something local so you can be home more often. Even W/S has routes that will get you home every day or two. I figure if I can learn how to drive in the snow and ice, the summer will be cake. Just remember "slow is your friend"...

    This sounds exactly like my situation.. it will suck being away from the kids, but way better than sitting around doing nothing all day.

    KWW900;

    If Kelby and or Dick are sounding hard they are o ly trying to make reality set in, they are there to nake sure you and your classmates will make a go of it out here on the road, it is not to hard if you go over every situatio. In your head and know what you will do in that situation, We including AT the 21 year old who weighs 112 pounds with his grand dads boots on and gets the furniture loads that weigh 50 times what he does for every stop, we are all out here for you, we will help with any questions you may have as well as the knowlegdable staff that are all listed in the Red Binder, that is your Bible keep it close by, I use mine e eryday for a map or a question or whatever, I think you are reading to much into it, which is easy to do as you are seeing the "Wall of Shame" and thinking that may just happen to me, no it won't there are huundreds of drivers out here who have perfect records(I'm not one of them) but there are guys who go 30 years without scratching a mirror, again I'm not one of those either, but they understand that with brand new drivers fresh out of school there are going to be a few" Scratched mirrors" Etc, I think you should ride it out see what comes of it and get out here an d roll with us, then you can call us and ask the questions like I did IE "On a Volvo why isn't the 5th wheel staying released?" Well I called oe of the guys from here and he told me" While pulling out pull up and out" guess what I know ow and hit it everytime I drop a trailer. None of us are imune from these types of questions, I will PM you my info. So you have my number, I take calls all hours day or night, if I'm busy leave a message I will@ all you back, this goes for anyone out there that I can help. Take Care. TD24

    It's seems natrual in the begining of this process to question or invision yourself doing this job.I did,for 2 weeks in training I really questioned myself if this was for me..I have never been in a truck,this tractor trailor is huge..wow I have to learn to drive this in 2 weeks and pass a test..Then you pass and it dawns on you,ok I have my CDL and orientation for my company is on this date..omg,will this work out or will I wash out...Finally you realize that the schools and companys that hire new drivers..know this and make it as easy as possible for you up front..So you learn and next thing you know your driving for a living..They teach you how to walk..you choose to run with it..

    Not much in local work up in Mt. Vernon for a new guy. I wish you would've stuck it out for atleast a year to get some time in. That would open some doors up for atleast the few co's up in your area. You should be able to atleast go out on the road for GTI or Interstate to get your time in and make it atleast up to the Tacoma area once or twice a week and then just drive in your car to spend the rest of the night at home. Good luck.
