    little background...

school in 89, JB Hunt for a year, the a small company in Iowa for 10 years (5 as company flatbed, 5 as O/O flatbed).
Had a wreak in 2000, was a fatality, I rear-ended a car moving very slowly on the interstate one night, single driver of the car died, I spent 3 days in hospital, released and went home. Never planned to drive again.

Not Charged with anything after, no Ticket issued, not on my record anywhere. Infact my DAC doesn't even show the company I worked for for 10 years. released my CDL in 2003, got it Back in 2006 after jumping thru the hoops and driving test again.

Drove a Cement truck for 4 months, deceided I really did want to return to Driving Semi, got a Job for a local company hauling Lumber from yard to yard, worked 4 States, out a couple nights a week, 2600-2800 miles a week, then its over, company sells off half the yards, layed off...

Now I turn to OTR companys, I find no one will hire me with a fatality wreak as I tell every company I apply to about the wreak.

Am I just out for good? Wreak was 7 years ago and I have 7 months back behind the wheel. I would really like to drive again, I find I missed it a lot more then I thought I would. will anyone give me a job???

I would stop mentioning the wreck to all the companies if it is not on any paper that a prospective employer may check the why list it.
If they find out later about it by maybey a previous employer then just explain that it was 7+ years ago i did not think that it should be hanging over my head for life since it is not on your mvr or dac.

Got to agree with MGASSEL, if this wreck does not show up on anything, not on DAC, no ticket, not on record anywhere, etc, stop mentioning it.

Is the application requiring you to go back 10 years in regards to wrecks and tickets, or are you just bringing this up?

It has been a long while since I filled out an application, but I thought that most companies only required you to go back 5 years on this.

I think I would stay quiet about it as well.

the reason it comes up is from my experiance, why did I leave the company in 2000? I assume when they call that company they then tell them I had the wreck.

A few Apps, go back 10 years, some 5, some only ask for 3.

should I just forget the 10 years Exp and claim the 7 months I have since returning? list my last 3 years and never mention that I have the prior experiance beyond 7 months?

Or is there somewhere I can go and still get credit for my time driving?

I know applications go back 10 years for driving history, but are they requiring you list accidents back that far?

I wouldn't lie on an application. However, if they are not specifically asking for this information, I wouldn't volunteer it.

As for your experience, you are basically starting over on any payscale anyhow. Some companies will pay you for past experience going back as far as 5 years, but few, if any, are going to pay you for your driving that ended back in 2000.

well remember if you get your own truck you will need to have your own insurance, plates, authority, enough money for fuel, truck payments, fuel tax permits, trailer insurance would also be good. but the most important this is make sure you can get work with someone before you jump of the cliff and buy everything.

Not neccesarily, you can get your own truck, pay your 2290, and LEASE to a company that will provide (read make you pay) Ins,PLates, file fuel tax etc. But you will need to have some running money for your first few weeks to get rolling.

But if you're having problems getting hired, then it could be the same story with your own truck. And, if you strike out on your own (fully independent on own authority) you'll still have to pay your own ins which might not be possible (given previous history/events).

    Good luck guys!

Seriously trucker!!!! STOP MENTIONING IT UNLESS THEY ASK FOR 7 YRS ACCIDENT REPORT!!!!!!!!!!

Look its time to move on, and all most companies ask for is 3 years anyway...........so......... do not mention it. Plus its probably the 7 months experience ( recent) thats blocking you.
Good Luck and keep on trying, maybe look at one of the big 3 , and eat crap for a few months as a rookie.:biggrin_2551:
