Yea, when they come up behind you they have no idea how much light those BIG mirrors of ours throw at us and blinds us. I have the utility lights on the back of my cab for backing to a trailer at night. I'll flip them on and off and it "usually" gets the point across.
I'd like to add to this list with....when you (4 wheelers) are coming onto the higway and we move over to the left to make more room for you to do so, PLEASE don't pass us on the right. Drop behind us and let us back over to the right lane. For the most part, we try to stay in the right lane. and let you faster folks have the hammer lane. But when you get on our right you lock us out there and that just makes more (cars) angry at us.
And, if you're going to pass us on the left, please get on with it and do it quickly. We have enough to focus on without having someone hanging just off the left side of our tandems for miles.
A note to 4 wheelers

I just came back from a run from Phoenix and was amazed at the number of people that drove in a snow storm with there lights off, and the ones that had them on had there driving lights on.
People seem to believe that you can see them in poor visibility situations, and at night with a windshield that is not perfect when they come at you with driving lights on, it is a wall you can not see past, and that one is not only the 4 wheelers.
Setting up you lights so you can see a little better and blinding someone could get them killed, and if they panic and drive to the lights it could get you killed.
Ever notice how fast a driver that has the brightest lights is to flash his highs back on, well if you are one of those. I do believe you are a jerk, and when I am in my pick-up and you come at me with your driving lights on I am the one that will put on my high beams, and leave them on. If I get to see the truck I will call and tell the shipper/ company. I lost a vehicle because of a guy having those bug eye lights on that they use with a snow plow, and a deer came out right behind him. -
Sorry but if yours were on first , your own #### bad fortune. I have bad lights on mine anyhow , need to get them replaced.
Also if a snow plow has all they're lights on GOOD! If you lost your personal vehicle because someone else was following what they're suposed to do tough ####.Last edited: Dec 1, 2010

I treat every person on the road the same weather they are in a car or truck, If im passing another truck and a car comes speeding up on my right I will try to speed up to keep them from cutting me off, i will never move out in front of a vehicle coming up on my left if they are coming fast, regardless if it be a car or truck.. I see cars and pickups all the time cutting 18wheelers off for no reason, heck most take the exit right ahead of them.. the public has no idea about trucks, and if mom or dad is driving foolishly, im not going to move my truck out in front of them and possibly put a child in danger... My wife drives a Four wheeler, usually hauling our twin baby girls with her.. she has been all over this country all her life.. I dont want her cut off, and she wont speed up and try to pass you while your trying to pass, and she wont cutt you off.. If your ever On I-90 In Montana watch for the green mini van with the OOIDA sticker... Thats a truckers Wife...

LOL LOL LOL... When I first started reading this I thought, "man...this guy is a complete idiot!" Then I read, "i can do it....and i'm a swift driver." That explains everything! Underpaid-non driving-crash tested-tiny radio talking-steering wheel holder! Sounds like someones trainer just railed him for *trying* to back into the dock on his own while he (the trainer) was sleeping! LOL

Mr Swift driver....Please don't be jealous of us who drive real trucks that have real CB's, one day when you grow up and get some real driving experience in something that has more power than the over-sized power wheels you are driving, then you can talk about taking off without rolling backwards and buying chrome, I'm sure it's easy to take off without rolling back in a automatic.TruckerJoy and chralb Thank this.

chralb, it is too bad that you can't put this post up at all the rest stops that you frequent, or any other place that it can be seen. It would indeed save many lives. There are so many drivers out there that have no idea about what it takes to drive a truck. This would be a huge help to a lot of not-in-the-know drivers...Thanks for the post!
chralb Thanks this. -
1.) I want some "Don't be a beer can" bumper stickers (in DOT reflective red & white of course)
2.) re: night driving, don't you hate these new "Super Bright" traffic lights they have now? It bathes the interesction in a cool green light and renders everything past the intersection a black hole. Even with hi-beams, you can't see anything more than 20' past the light.tech10171968 Thanks this. -
I do not have my CDL yet, but I did drive a 4300 International Flatbed for a steel company, and I have ALL the respect in the world for truck drivers.
I can tell you that car drivers (who are not truckers themselves) have absolutely no idea how difficult it is for even a small truck, like the one I drove, is to stop when loaded.
I was cut off, honked at, and given the 3 finger salute multiple times by people on cell phones or plain just not paying attention at what is rolling up on them, at legal speed, with ALOT of weight on it. 9 times out of 10 they just do not care.
I ran with my lights on and STILL some did not even see me due to being engrossed in cellular conversations. Thank goodness I was not involved in an accident.
God Bless you truckers for delivering the goods safely that my family and I use to better the quality of our lives. Christmas would never be the same without YOUR hard and diligent work.
YOU ALL ARE THE REAL SANTAS!
