for the new guys and the old ones who haven't quite figured it out...
When you're done and pull away from the docks, do not stop in front of the other trucks at the docks and close your doors, slide tandems, go hit on the shipping clerk, take a leak, or whatever you have to do! Same thing with pulling in. Do not block the docks while you get your door!
I sat there today and watch some moron from CEVA pull away and block three other trucks that need to get out as well, while he screwed around with trying to slide his tandems. Most DC's have an entry road, or an open area you can pull to SOMEWHERE nearby. Use it instead!
End of Rant...
One more note of etiquette...

by your profile you have been out here 4yrs, and if you "havent quite figured it out" drivers today are not the "etiquette" type, Get over it, if it bothers you so much, get out, go over, and tell the driver in your "bothered fashion" to move. Read that message you have by Mark Twain again. Quite whinning!!!
just lil me, Rerun8963, striker and 1 other person Thank this. -
Who the heck yanked your chain? Instead of trying to insult complete strangers to stoke your ego, you might try taking a little advice. I guess with that whopping two years you have under your belt, you've pretty much been everywhere and seen it all, eh Supertrucker?

You know what? When I pull from the dock I'm going to stop, get out and close my doors. It takes me 2 minutes to do that and I'm going to. Now I'll pull my tandems elsewhere if there is an elsewhere but if there isn't a place that I feel is safe for the rest of my load then I'll do it right there.
I'm going to patiently wait for other drivers, let them even go first. But I darn well expect the same courtesy. I don't know what's going on with another driver's load, what they're dealing with and neither do they know what's going on with mine. I'm going to give another driver the respect of thinking he's doing what he needs to and I expect that respect in return.
Now if a driver can't wait that 2 minutes for me to pull that door or shut those doors so my load is kept cold ........well........he or she can put their big girl panties on and deal with it.Mike', ac120, lydialonghaul and 15 others Thank this. -
Let me ask you a question.
Did you or any of the other drivers there offer to assist the driver in sliding his tandems???

I bet it would have been quick, easy and greatly appreciated!Big Red, just lil me, outerspacehillbilly and 10 others Thank this. -
Did you three big strong drivers voice your concerns to this Ceva lad or just adjust your panties and curse under your breath, love these stories....ac120, l<enny and HEAVY DUDE Thank this.

That would require work and initiative. -
If I need to slide my tandems, I usually do it while I'm still in my dock slot. The handle is already pulled and locked down anyway, so I pull forward, hold onto the trolley bar, put the tandems where I want them, pull the tractor air brake, go back and release the lever and then pop the pins into the desired holes. It only takes a minute and since I only need about 15 feet in front of the truck, I'll just git 'r done in my door slot. It makes the turn out easier.
If there's enough room between trailers, I close my doors at the same time. If there isn't, well, someone is going to have to wait a minute. I've seen too many doors swing loose of the moorings to take a chance on one of my doors damaging someone else's stuff.
My paperwork is almost always in my hand before I even set my tandems and I took a tinkle when I got there...or when I picked up my paperwork.
So...if you can't wait for a minute while I close my doors, get out and holler at me...please. I'm sure I can find something to say back to you that will either make you feel about two inches tall or have you walking away shaking your head and wondering what I just said. I can throw insults in seven different languages.ac120, striker, otherhalftw and 3 others Thank this. -
Would you explain that part about the handle being pulled and llocked down ??
What does that mean ??
