Take it from me, an owner of an old Freightliner.....If you're planning on keeping a truck for any length of time, then stay WAY THE HELL away from a Freightliner!
Unless that is, you LIKE rattles that you'll never chase down, the dash buzzing incessantly every time you put your foot into the throttle, feeling the wind in your hair (WITH THE FREAKING WINDOWS UP), slamming the door 435,765 times and STILL not getting it closed good, getting wet in rain storms from water coming in around the doors, a poorly insulated sleeper, and an overall cheaply made truck. Mine is a '96 FLD, but all the newer Freightbeaters I've driven, with the exception of the horribly underpowered DD15 powered Cascadia, rattled and banged just as much as my old FLD.
I bought my FLD because it was a good deal and I had to buy it from the guy who had it to take his place on the dedicated run he was on. THat's the only way he'd give the run up and quit, was if the tractor sold. I did it and i don't regret doing it. I figured I'd run the thing a while and trade. Well, the little Cat motor was still purring after 1 million and it was getting around 7mpg's so I kept running it. At 1.6 million, I'm still running it, but I'm getting sick and tired of the cab. I know the next truck I buy, I'll most likely run for many years, too, because that's the way I am. It will NOT be a Freightliner. My Dad has some old T-600's that are older than my FLD with more miles on them and they haven't come anywhere close to falling apart like my FLD.
