Have an 07 W900L C15 13 speed, 3.25 and 22.5 lo pros. I average 5.72 mpg overall - heavy, light, east west north and south. 53 Van.
Was wondering if anyone is running an SCR engine and what kind of mileage you are getting in real life. Am looking at a T660 studio.
Most drivers I talk to with DPF engines only get 6.25 to 6.50 at best. A few Volvo drivers said they are getting over 7 with ISX 500 hp which I find hard to believe.

Dropping the brick W900 for a sleeker T660 probably would give you at least .5 or more mpg without changing anything else.
Since the SCR engines get to "dial back" on the EGR a little since the SCR is taking care of more of the NOx, they should get better fuel mileage in theory. I have heard of several DD15 engines with SCR in Cascadias getting over 7 mpg consistently.
I would forget the new stuff and get a brand new glider kit truck and have a rebuilt pre-emissions engine installed. 30% cheaper cost, no Federal Excise Tax, and lower operating cost over the life of the truck and w..a..y better mpg.
I disabled the EGR on my '06 ISX and have consistently gotten over 7 mpg for the last 240,000 miles with it in an International 9400i.
Your call.Eskimo6804 Thanks this. -
Good idea.....But won't fly in Cali.......In '14.....You better have an '07 or newer to cross into the Left Coast.....

I get in the 7's regularly with an '09 Cascadia - DD15, 3.36 rears, and 40,000+ in the wagon.
Its more about how you drive it - slow down, stay off of the accelerator.orion3814 Thanks this. -
That's true. I gave up running west of I-25 and into New England several years ago. I consider California going out of the country. But someone has to do it, and some actually like it. That's cool.

Why will a Volvo get .5 to 1 mpg better than other trucks. Had a 09 Cascadia DD15 13 speed 3.42 only got 6. That was in the winter though. -
Its not the truck... its the driver. I've heard that given the same truck, load and route - two different drivers can get as much as 30% different mileage. Its about technique.

Shift smooth, slow down and drive it like you have an egg under the throttle and if you break it your old Catholic school teacher is going to bust your knuckles with the ruler.
I see guys everyday leaving a traffic light with a fully loaded trailer and you think they must be on a 1/4 mile track they way they are driving. -
Not including the ones that snatches 5 gears in the truckstop parking lot and then throw on the jakebamanation Thanks this.
