I feel the oposite... had a few two stoppers sprinkled throughout my time so far. Know what you mean for the month of Dec... tho my dates are spread out better... I'm stayin out till Christmas then gonna be out and might see if I can get swung thru the house for New Years, but if not I'm ok. My daughter's Birthday is the 18th Jan. We are having two parties for both our children. Son's birthday is 15 of Feb. Party one on the 8th then out and back for party 2 on the 22. then out and back for son party 1 on the 15 then out and party 2 on the 26th... Luckily that these are spread over 3 months... I'd like to see New Years and would feel safer if I was home, but I know freight can't be told how to be... lol heard it all before.

I'm on a long run. Out of the house with a 1500 miler from PA to Texas. longest and first 1000+ run I've seen... Got a crappy start tho, got a flat this morning on the trailer. well I mean it went flat while I was home for 7 days. was fine when I post tripped it. Found a screw in it. Got it fixed and had a PM done to the trailer and off I went over 5 hours later... lol

Was glad to be heading South West! Its snowing like crazy north of my area... Buffalo was closed and I guess is still getting hammered... Hope people SLOW down and stay safe...

A pretty good day. Dropped off two stops in Charlotte this morning and then rolled into Durham to meet the wife for lunch at the house. Got in touch with an internet friend that I have been communicating with for years now but never met in person. He is a lawyer in DC and I knew I would be staying in Jessup tonight so I brought him up an ice chest full of venison and he gave me a big sack full of various salmon (smoked, frozen fillets, candy, etc) he had caught in Alaska. We went out for a nice dinner and conversation, a very pleasant evening all in all. Still got half a trailer full of furniture and it ain't on pallets so I hope they have plenty of help getting it off the truck as I did my fair share of the first half of it today:) Hoping I don't get sent into the nasty weather areas tomorrow but guess I will deal with it as best as I can. Going to stay out until the 26th I suppose so I can have the last week of December off.

Had a pretty scary experience last night. I was driving through Richmond around rush hour next to a big wrecker pulling a truck and he took off the top of the truck on an underpass next to me. I got showered with some sort of oily mixture all over the top of my truck and wind shield and could just manage to see enough to not hit anything. Got her slowed down but the windshield washer was no justice. Managed to roll on into Durham for a late supper at home and headed out early this morning. Still sitting at a paper mill/recycling mill here in Augusta, GA. Long line of trucks to unload and only two docks:(.

Well made it out of Augusta after about 5 hours of waiting around but did get to talk to an older gentleman O/O for Roehl (8 years) as we were both docked at the same time. Turns out we both had a little in common as we have both traveled to the Philippines in some of the same areas on Mindanao. Real nice guy.

Looks like this returning week out is going to shape up real nice. Picking up tomorrow at IP near Darlington, NC and rolling back west to northwestern Louisiana for an early Tuesday delivery. Glad to be staying south and missing the snow and cold. Was in the low 70's today in Augusta:)

Sitting it out tonight in Ellenwood. The most trucks I have ever seen at the terminal tonight and it seems they are doing some construction as well. About 10 folks in the lounge and they all wanted to watch football instead of IRT deadliest roads so I just decided to come on back down to the truck and grill some salmon up. Don't think I will be able to reach my drop tomorrow as I only have 8.5 hrs left to go tomorrow so will have to finish her off early Tuesday morning.

    Majestyk.
Wow GREAT thread and wonderful reporting. I've been doing my due diligence for the last month, getting my ducks in a row. Hopefully will be in gear after the first of the year. In going over your posts, you mentioned several times. . .poor directions, using google, etc. but no mention of a GPS. Curious, are you using one? What kind and is it helpful. If not, why not? Thanks again for your encouraging posting.
    Regards,
    Sky King

    Sky King,
I know you were asking Majestyk, but I'll throw in my 2 cents (and that's about all I can swing these days :p )... I don't use a GPS (yet) but am saving up for one. Do I feel I NEED one? not really, but it would be an added 'comfort' if you will. I don't drive for Roehl (just trolling various threads), so I don't know how their directions are. But I have only had to use Google Maps 4-5 times in the last few months. This was because "directions to S or C not available". I've only gotten "lost" one time, and that was using Google Maps on a Shipper directions not avail., and it turned out I was within 1/4 of a mile from the warehouse. A GPS 'might' not have been much better IMO, as I have compared directions on Google Map and several GPS's in the past and they usually match up pretty well. Big difference is that the GPS is constantly updating, whereas with Google Maps you HAVE to be online to get updated directions. You could save the directions to hard drive but what happens if you have to detour?

Usually, I just run with QC directions + Rand McNally Paper Atlas.

Thanks Sky King. I have traveled in remote areas throughout South America, Africa and SE Asia with ###### maps provided in travel guides without a GPS so I figure I don't need one here when I have a really nice road atlas that does the job:) Most of our customers have decent directions given by drivers, although at times they are a little lacking in detail. If they are lacking or seem confusing then I check them out on google maps. I suppose if you don't have access to the internet when traveling then perhaps a GPS would be of benefit as several times I have called customers for directions and just get the #### annoying answering machines.
Made it to Tallulah, LA tonight after getting a late start in Ellenwood as I went to Wal-Mart to restock on some food and get some glass cleaner to try and get the oily film off my window and mirrors. Got about 2.5 hours to go to reach customer so should have no problem getting there a little early tomorrow.

Got unloaded at IP in about 10 minutes and headed on over to Crossett, AR for a GP load. Waiting here while they are at lunch. Going to be heading to De Pere, WI, so another decent run. Will probably stay at Gary terminal tomorrow night as I have an afternoon delivery time for Thursday. Either that or try to get it relayed and continue on with something else.
