Oh man sorry to hear it, what about checking out a company that will put you with a trainer for several weeks? I have a classmate when we were in driver training that went to Werner and he now is out in his own truck, I think he went out with a trainer for 6 weeks, check them out. Take Care, Best of luck to you.

kw900,
The fact is that you really have not done this job, so you you dont know if you are cut out for it or not. You should let your company trainer be the judge on that. (if he/she has 5 or more years experience) Its really to early to give up. You have not given yourself or the job a chance. Having said that, it may just be that the idea of being on the road for a few weeks away from friends, family and other comforts is not appealing. You may not need to go long haul, but some folks do not have that choice. The clock is ticking, sooner or later you will have to make up your mind if you're going to do this job or not. The sooner you start, the sooner you will gain the experience required to be hired by a reputable local company. I have learned over the years that in trucking one must pay his dues, whether you think you owe them or not. Going around in circles is only going to delay your career. This job is not as tough as you think, it has is adversities, it has its moments. But Man, is it fun and rewarding. Remember, its all what you make of it and sometimes our minds are our own worst enemies. ANy trucker who has spent countless hours suffering from whiteline fever, can attest to my last statement.Gunrunner84 Thanks this. -
Try it before you decide...I may safely be able to say if anyone, that just starts out ALONE(no trainer), said they aren't nervous and apprehensive, is lying...I use it to make me more cautious and drive a little slower...Even when I see 100 trucks blaze past me going down a hill, I don't say, if they can I can, I go as fast as I'm comfortable going, if that means they all pass me, so be it...I'm still not comfortable in TSs, I'd rather fuel, eat then look for a rest stop if there isn't an easy spot to pull into...I have no fears when docking between trailers but TSs have an "air" to them, at least to me, that causes great anxiety and nervousness even though I know, well, pretty sure I can hit the spot...Until my comfort level builds up, I'll stick to my comfort "zone"...I think you're just articulating what most people feel, many just won't say it, I think you're normal!...AND with WS you have a family, exchange names and numbers and whenever you need some help or just want to talk, call!...Gunrunner84 Thanks this.
