I personally am enjoying my experience so far at Stevens. I'm in the CDL course, and the instructors are top notch. They can explain things in so many ways, so many type of people can understand it. I'm having an issue with downshifting. Well Ms. Instructor today told me to slap the ### and put it in. Really helps when trying to downshift. The trucks, from what I see are in newer condition than most companies. The drivers I've talked too, from Alliance and company all seem to enjoy their careers with Stevens. I'm looking forward to hitting the public roads tomorrow.

Leasing isn't for everyone. It requires discipline, commitment and a willingness to work hard. There are plenty of drivers that do very well with leasing. There are others that just don't fit the profile.
Always ask questions until YOU are satisfied.
I can show you plenty of drivers, starting with me, that do well with leasing. Much better than I did on the company side.
If your buddy was broke, he waited too long to ask for help. There are plenty of people in there waiting to help you succeed.

Yep here it all the time, Leasing is a business, one that you will work very hard at to learn to be profitable. So many go into the lease thinking they can refuse loads, drive as fast as they can, go home every weekend, and then complain because they went broke. I am a profitable, happy lease driver, coming up on my 3 year anniversary too.

The first year as a lease operator, is the hardest, as one learns the business, how Stevens operates, and what does and does not work for you.

Now don't come here spouting off about your friend turning in his keys, why not tell your experience, good and bad, and be truthful.

When will people realize that being a L/O is more than holding a steering wheel and shifting gears. TLH is right, it is running a business, and doing the right things at the right times to be profitable. Stevens is partly to blame because like many other companies the 'lease' option is sold as the gateway to riches. The web site says 'Make more money!, Top Alliance driver grossed $329,000 last year!' There are a lot of students in those classes that can't see beyond the $$$$.

Good point Dryver, but what happened to buyer beware, if it is too good to be true, it is.
That top alliance driver had to be one busy trainer, or a full team. Kinda like the ads earn UP TO .50 per mile...will not tell you what you start at. Truely gross tells a person nothing. But Stevens has no knowledge of what his net was, since he is a contracted employee.

I was guessing it had to be a husband/wife team or a trainer that always has a trainee in the truck. It is very misleading and I agree with you, the gross means nothing. Enron had huge gross earnings, DOH!

The company manufactured the trk with a jake brake for saftey reason for pulling heavy loads do a hill . If a company disconnects. The jake brake then that in itself is not a safty minded company . I guess gettn ur brakes hot and blowing tires is there idea of safety lol

Leasing a trk is the biggest joke. Save money this will teach u discipline then buy ur own. Making 3000.00 a week aand being home every other day isnt uncommon . Do your research . Leasing is nothing more than inslaving u to the company. Make ur own decisions for urself buy you own. Lima ohio / chicago 383mi. At 1.00 mi equals 766.00 dollars a day. Times 5days a week equals $3830. Hometime best there is . Weekends off. Allways home allways making money. Take ur 10hr breaks at home u cant beat it. Why would u inslave urself is beyound me .
