UGGG - My guy has been with them for a year. It's been nothing but co-driver after co-driver - issues like I have never seen or could have possibly imagined before. Waiting for loads, no layover pay, poorly issued or flat out bad directions with disconnected phone numbers for drop sites, dispatch nightmares, lost trailers with expectations to drive around and find one ... without pay....Overall the pay is not so great - Good Luck

You couldn't make a better statement! I find it so amusing that certain (hundreds of) companies constantly advertise for drivers. When does common sense come into play here? Do drivers really think they advertise because they have to much business and can't keep up with demand? Or do they advertise because they can't keep drivers? I think it's the latter.

You know, in my opinion, it's so easy to spot a junk company. Here's how to find one. Go to any truckstop and pick up any one of the free magazines. Look at those companies. Those are the junk companies that go through drivers like crap through a goose. Seems simple enough to me.

    Drive safe

Young man, when I was just starting out, I was also paid a reduced rate for the first six months. The company was Transport America, and the rate was 23cpm...in 1996. After that, I went up to 32cpm. Once again, this was fifteen years ago, when you could buy a pack of smokes for under $1.50 and $40K per year was #### Good Money.

Student or not, if you're making under 30cpm absolute minimum in the Year of Our Lord 2010, you are taking it up the fart pipe in a major way. Sooner or later, this fact will sink in. :biggrin_25524:

I've been trucking for over seven years. Most new drivers complaining, have issues like they don't want to run (work), they're on dope, they're new to trucking and don't really know what the life is like on the road. Yhea, there are trucking Co's that rip people off for sure. Like I said I've been on the road for seven years. You want real world advice? Listen to the old boys that have been on the road for 20+ years. That's where you get real world advice. The've been screwed for real. The've worked for good and bad Co's. This whinin' about I can't get home, or I don't get to choose my load is BS.

There are many companies which offer better mileage rates for newbies, and with much less of a turnover rate. The newbies simply need to research better, and not be so willing to settle,as this is why companies like CRST,England, etc. are out there taking advantage of the beginners,as well as bringing a huge decline to the industry overall. We all started somewhere, yet us "old timers" were taught to actually think much more than these new guys are nowadays. If there were actually more of us "old timers" more willing to actually lend a helping hand to these youngsters, then a bit of difference would be accomplished, just not enough to make a severe enough impact industry wide.

Yeah oral history is great when you have the time. In the meanwhile, you had better keep up with current events.
