Hello from NC

    I have been in the aviation industry for the last 21 years and with the current economy hitting aviation hard, plus burn out. I have decided to change careers. It's funny, 21 years ago I was trying to decide which field I wanted to pursue, trucking or aviation. I had a little taste of both and aviation opportunities seemed to fall in my lap at the time. It's been a fun ride but now I am considering moving to my other option. As with anything, it is best to go where the experience is and I found this great forum. I am currently studying for my CDL permit and will take the test after the new year. Anyway, I look forward to learning from your experience, and appreciate your input. I do have 2 small children, that are going to be hard to leave, but I see the growth in this industry and the opportunity to provide for my family better than I can now.

    Welcome to the forum. Im from NC myself over in Greenville. It is hard being away from family, especially the small ones. I have a 15 yr old daughter. I couldnt of done this when she was younger. For me it just wouldnt of worked. Your typically out for 3 to 5 weeks at a time and get 3 to 5 days of home time. f you can handle being away from home that much, this is a strong industry to get into. Good luck with whatever you decide, but definately do your homework. This forum is a good start.

    Years ago I took flying lessons. Really enjoyed it but it just got too darned expensive.

    Yeah, flying is definitely an expensive hobby. I think the Light Sport Rules are the way to go for most of us pleasure flyers. Pick up a older taildragger (2 seater) with hangar space and it shouldn't cost much more than a serious golf or bass fishing hobby. Avgas is running around $4.40 a gal. Ouch.

    I did fly ultralights too. Low and slow. That was pretty neat. I think they fall under FAR103 but that was years and years ago. May revisit those too.

    Welcome to the board Makati Grill! This forum is the best way to learn about this industry and driving. I am certain that my path to solo driving would have been much, much tougher if I hadn't found the forum early on. Good luck to you!
