Who knows. It is either a detroit or a cummins. I would go with a very large V-12 maybe V-16 cummins. You can tell its not an inline motor by the sound but it is huge and has really big balls to pull both of those.
-
It says it has a 16 cylinder Detroit. It was made in 1977 so it would be a 2 stroke
-
16v71 detroit, that is what it said on the side of the one i've seen pics of in magazines. there are also videos of some big buds on you tube
-
Sure sounds like an old two stroke.

The Big Bud 16V-747 is the largest tractor made in the 20th Century. It was custom ordered by Rossi Farms of California to pull ripper plows at three to four foot depths. The tractor was reconditioned in the late 1990s and is still in use in Montanta
16v92 900hp stock and weighs 130,000lbs, there was the key to pulling the two sleds the shear weight of the machine over what its hooked to, also even using a long chain to pull with didn't matter -
are we becoming stupid or what? this doesn't amaze me, is a huge tractor with super low gear, I will challenge that thing to get on the hi way and do 50 mph, that will be a challenge oh and do it at 10 mpg, I guess I'm asking too much well that's like asking those two tiny sleds to stop that monster, I tell you what I do to make it more fair than this, I'll get a D11 on the other end and have a tug o war with this big bud, does that make any sense ? of course not the D 11 was design just for that.
come on people, what have we come to?Last edited: Dec 6, 2010

that big bud wont but all the manufactors have tractors that will run the 50mph and burn 4-5gph doing it, They gov. the speed at 34mph here in the states but in other countries they can turn them loose. And at the 34mph you can run them down the roughest gravel road you could possible find and they ride smooth as silk. Also I don't see the D11 running away with a tug of war contest

I seen one of thoes military plane towing things tug with a D8 on the dirt and it pulled that D8 backwards like it wasn't their. Not sure how heavy that thing was but it was a rubber tire 4 wheel drive. I though the dozers tracks in the dirt would win hands down but it just went skiding backwards. Those huge rubber tires never sliped at all. It must have been a heck of a lot heavier than the dozer. Not sure what it had for an engine. It was a large diesel. How ever I looked up the specs on the D11. They weigh between 204,500lbs and 248,000lbs. 770hp to 915hp. On weight alone the D11 should be able to out pull the Big Bud. I would like to see Big Bud put up against any other 4 wheel drive tractor.

yes it is a v16 detroit only weighs 55 ton or somthing like that full of fuel they had it at one time up to 1100hp and as low as 750hp tires are one off that is why they quite using it and went to showing it and now every one here is going to notill so dont need to pull duckfoot any more you can pull a airdrill with way less power
