Just wondering if any Maverick drivers out there can give me an idea how they run around Christmas time. Do many of the steel and lumber yards shut down for the week of Christmas? Just wondering how miles are this time of the year. I am all set for orientation at Maverick starting 01/02/11. I was supposed to start earlier but my wife has been ill and I've had to make sure she is ok before I leave out. I am very excited and anxious about working for them and look forward to meeting some of the Maverick drivers that have posted on this forum. Hope all the drivers out there have a Happy Holiday and a prosperous New Year. Be safe out there.

I don't mean to be a pain here but can someone give me some insight on Maverick? I have a few questions if anyone can answer them?
    1. What is Mavericks operating area?
    2. What does Maverick pay for tarping a load?
    3. What do you haul other than steel coils?
    4. How does Maverick pay for tolls, if they do?

I'd sure appreciate it if someone could answer these questions.

    1. Maverick operates mainly in the eastern half of the country although they do have long haul drivers who run the lower 48. They also run some Canada mainly the specialized division.
    2. $10 for steel $20 for lumber
    3. Anything you can put on a flatbed IE; lumber, pvc, gypsum board, shingles
    4. They have EZ-Pass for tolls and Pre-Pass for Scales

    TDriver4Life Thanks this.

    Les!
I live in Bedford, KY and about a half hour from Ghent, KY. I too will be starting training. I haven't reviewed Maverick yet but I hear it is a good company. I'm considering Watkins Shepard. They have a terminal in Richmond, KY. I haven't read anything negative about them. They recommended a school and as soon as I am enrolled they said to submit their application online. I have 10 years work experience as a Field Service Rep for GE. Got laid off in good standing 10/09. Hope to meet up with you.

One thing to keep in mind. It does not matter where the terminals are, it matters if you are in the freight lanes. North American Stainless is in Ghent as you probably know, and we pick up there all the time...so you are in a good spot for Maverick.

Jim there is another place we pick up coils just a few miles east of NAS on the same road. They load fast. Coils are outside. Toss 2 chains then cross the road to finish securing and tarping.

I have seen it, but I have never loaded there. I keep getting the dreaded preloaded trailers at NAS!
    I hate trailer swaps! lol

I got a call from Maverick today. They questioned a period of unemployment from early '09 to mid '10. This was when the economy bit the dust, and they said they can't accept a period of a year of unemployment that is so recent. Am I the only one that wasn't working during that time, or is this an excuse to blow me off because of my age. I was driving before Maverick even existed.:biggrin_25510:
