At the yard today.
Delivered to Tom Thumb / Randall's Produce / Safeway in Roanoke yesterday and got a QC to head to the yard. Didn't even realize it bt I had been out for 94 days. Cleared by 1300 today and got a load that picks up in Garland tomorrow morning, heading to Winchester VA for a Thursday delivery.
As Emulsified said, the trailer lot is empty....emptiest I have ever seen it. No loads here on the yard either. But there are 2 Knight trailers here.
If anyone's here, I'm pounding away on my laptop in the non-smoker's driver lounge.![]()

Well the warm weather is about over for me. Four pick down thru the valley tomorrow, then off to Denver.
I get cold thinking about it.
At least I'm going the southern route thru Albuquerque.
Been at the J here in Ripon. Holy cow do they pack this place or what! See double parked rigs along the curb. I have no freaking idea how I'll get out tomorrow morning. Guess I'll be pounding on someone's door to move.
Watched a guy back into the Pete next to me this evening. It was a tight fit and there was another guy guiding his blind side. However, the guider didn't say anything until this poor driver crunched the Pete's fender. I feel sorry for him, but a driver is responsible...
A good lesson for you newer drivers, especially in tight places.
GET OUT AND LOOK!
That good samaritan guiding you in won't be sitting in safety explaining how you crumpled another truck's fender.
If he had just taken a moment to check for himself...
On another note, my younger brother is thinking of driving. Personally, I don't think he has the commitment to make it, however, he is going to ride with me a couple weeks to see what trucking's all about.
My two older brothers both drove. They agree with me...Joe doesn't have the commitment.
But who knows? Sometimes things like this just click. None of us thought my oldest brother would make it, however he retired from Schnieder after 25 years.
I asked him once if he ever had the want to go back out again (thinking he could ride with me a bit) and he responded, "once in a while. But then I just go down to the J, have a lousy meal and remember all the things that led me to retire. Then I go home happy."
Too bad it wasn't so simple for me. I didn't stay retired two years before I decided I wanted to go back out. And here I am. But I love it.
Must be some kind of mental illness. -
Smkr, Don't let clowns like bigtex ruin your disposition. I am thoroughly enjoying this thread. I'm considering stevens, My thing is in between jobs I'm retired Navy. So most of my stuff is 1099. Also I get compensation from the VA. How does stevens handle that?? I'm not afraid, thanks to Obama it's been 1064 A month since Jan 2009. Will Stevens accept a letter from the VA???
-
1099s and your VA comp should be fine.
