PackRAt, why do your comments all support having wide open borders with Mexican truckdrivers and trucks?

Aren't you concerned about the welfare of your fellow Americans (both safety and jobs) ?

Why is this politician ignorant? You make a comment that someone is ignorant for wanting to protect American jobs I'd like to see what your reasoning is for it. My guess is you have none and you may be the ignorant one...

    1. We made a contract and have to abide by that contract. We signed NAFTA in good faith and we need to own up to it. The US already has a bad enough reputation as it is in regards to reniging on contracts.

    2. Canadians are already granted the same rights. If you deny the same access to Mexicans, it's only fair that you do the same to Canadians. ARe you really ready to royally #### up our economy that way just to be "patriotic"?

It's already been well documented that the safety argument is a non runner since the trucks will be required to meet all US regulations. Plus the DOT has already posted stats that show that even with the #### equipment that Mexican operators use to shuttle trailers back and forth across the border that the failure rate is the same as the US carrier average. So that means that either Mexican trucks are safer than we thought or our trucks are not as safe as we like to claim.

And unless all you do is haul loads out of the border zone and back, you're not going to be in competition with these Mexican carriers. They can't engage in cabotage and there's no way they'd be able to get away with it considering they'll be watched like a hawk by everyone.

Whats funny is hearing drivers wringing their hands over the percieved "safety problems" of Mexican trucks while on the other hand they moan and groan when they are subjected to the same kinds of safety inspections and rules.

Then to hear them talk about how they "cheat the system" is just icing on the cake.

Because the politician obviously read from copy. He threw the "illegal immigration" argument in there which has NOTHING to do with Mexican carriers operating in the US. People keep trying to mix the two in this issue in order to create hate. Unfortunately, too many people are dumb enough to fall for it.

and the contract that was agreed upon is not being met by the mexican government,so why do you think that we should just let them in when they havent met there end of the deal.

and there are just as many people that are DUMB enough to just let them waltz right in here too.its a 2 way street.

Why should they meet their end of the deal when we're not meeting ours?

Let's see her, illegal immigration has nothing to do with this? You don't think that the problem with smuggling isn't going to get worse with Mexican trucks running the states? Come on man you can't be that naive. Mexican culture is notoriously corrupt and many of those drivers most certainly will try to bring in their relatives or whoever else. At about 2 grand a head lots of people can be fit into a trailer, we've already had problems with this. How many get through for every one that is caught? Just as with the drug trade, they may stop a large shipment here or there but we all know that plenty more dope is crossong the border than stopped. Speaking of dope how much more will be brought in with these trucks. Most of the drugs coming into this country come across the Mexican border, you don't think this will increase? NAFTA has been a horrendous failure for the U.S. look at any major manufacturing sector in this country or what's left of it anyway, why shouldn't a few politicians try to protect what's left of the American job market even if they won't succeed. Finally, all of Mexico's oil is nationalized, you know what that means? It means that all these carriers are going to have their fuel costs subsidized by the Mexican government therefore allowing the Mexican companies to run much more cheaply than their U.S. counterparts. Can you follow along here, if so you know what is next. Allowing these companies have access to U.S. highways is going to ruin what is left of the American dream. As far as your argument about creating "hate", wtf is that. Describe "hate". Wanting to protect American jobs is now "hate"? Get a clue my friend...
