I graduated trucking school and have been over the road now for the last 3+ months. I have fallen in love with the Mid/North West and a driver told me that the oil fields pay good and that you see the house and family alot more than I do now being OTR. So, needless to say, my wife is already looking at realestate in Montana and North Dakota.

My Question is, is How hard is it for a Tennessee boy to get a job with those good paying companies up north? If its a possibility, is there anyone reading this that will take a chance on a mature 34 year old with a perfect driving record, and no criminal history, who just wants to make a decent living and see his family more?

Thank in advance for any and all advise.

    May God bless you all,
    Daniel (Wrong Way)

You shouldn't have a problem getting a job up there hauling water from frac tanks.Usual shifts are 6 12 hour days then 2 off.Expect to work in -10 to -40 weather though. good luck

Finding housing sucks for sure whether you rent or buy..there is just nothing available and when there is you have to be right on it..depending on where you go and who you work for in ND they sometimes will provide housing for short term..the Co. I drive for has been awsome..they want to hire 100 more drivers by the 1st of the year..I'm working my max hrs of 70 hrs a week with 1 day off and I work 21 days and go home(wstrn Mntna) for 7 days..we just had a doozy of a storm and roads are definatly something to consider if you coem to drive in the winter..I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Jake..lol..I'm a newby driver and everyone has been very helpfull and suportive..losta work and money to be made her for sure..:biggrin_255:

Bakersfield, Ca has a lot of oil field jobs. Tons. The housing is cheep, the cost of living is cheep, LA, the Beach, Disneyland are all 2hr drive away. Bakersfield is surrounded by oilfields and then mountains. So it is in a valley and has poor air quality. We also have gangs and a crime rate but what place doesn't ? You can do research on the internet. Just another option. Oil field workers make 18-21 an hr to start.

Hi...gdyupgal...I also am from western Montana and am looking to get into hauling water/ trucking in the oil fields of ND or eastern Montana. my bro in law works as a tool pusher on a rig and said there is big money to be made hauling water for frac jobs and stuff. I am more looking to get into it as an owner/ operator...if you don't mind me asking what company do you drive for and do you know if they hire owner/ operators as well? any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

    Bo

Being as how I live on the Canadian side of the border, you and I both know that you get to see very little -40 weather in that area. I'll try to google the statistics.

I think I read that the last time Williston had -40 was in 1983.
