does a class C driver's license get coverted into a CDL or it's separate?

just the CDL, BUT the number you have stays the same, as well as anything ON your record.

 

just got my cdl a week or so ago. from IL.
they took my original license, asked me the usual, "is info still same" address, height, weight etc.
then, they used my license, and fed it into a machine, that printed out new license with Cdl and endorsements on it etc. and even same picture was printed on it..
so very painless procedure.
Same license number, just info on it changes basically.
So ALL is on same license. ONE License....
Is why you have to "drive right" in the old soccer van at home, cuz moving violations count on cdl or your personal vehicle. so too many tickets whatever your driving, say byby to your bread and butter.

yep once you are a cdl holder you are held to higher standards no matter what vehicle you're driving.

 

When you get a CDL you MUST relinquish any other driver's licenses period. While you have a CDL it is against federal law to have any other licenses. Once you have a CDL you are no longer a "civilian", you are a professional driver and considered as such whether driving a CMV or your own personal vehicle.

What does this mean? It means you mess up in your car and it will bite you in the butt for your cdl. If you are working for a carrier, they will review your MVR at least 1x/yr or more. You have to tell them within 30 days of conviction of any moving violation or they will find out anyways and fire you for not telling them first.
