I don't know if this will help but I am going to toss it out there anyhow.
Sensors for low engine oil and low coolant can shutdown some engines. At school the Volvo wouldn't keep running, it would start then shut down. We added some coolant and oil, added 911 to the fuel tanks and the fuel filter and it finally kept running. The Sterling's when first starting them, we need to set the auto idle, or they will shut down too, but only on the morning pre-trip start. -
Hopefully someone has stopped to help. It's cold enough there to be dangerous.

Alternator?
-
do the alternators have regulators on them. I know in cars they do go maybe causing erratic activity
-
yes they do
-
please NEVER trust the fuel gauge on ANY truck. they are not as accurate as one would think. and in the future please try not to go that low again.
this is true. the coolant sensor shut me down more than once. if the o/p has some bottles water, add that to the coolant reservoir, if it looks to be at the add line. it only takes a little bit of 'sloshing' in that reservoir tank to set off the sensors. -
Friend,at least you ARE close to home, and although cold as sh#t up there,at least you are not 300 miles south where I am,-blizzard time man,no good.....
-
i'm sure its been posted but sounds like the alternator went.

Gee Nate, you're having a tough week. I've just added you to the church prayer chain.
TruckerNate Thanks this.
