Raid3r, I had the exact same problem. I started 11 western home run. At first, the week off was great. But, after 4 months of only seeing my kids for 6-7 days at a time I needed a change. I called my DBL on a Mon or Tues and told her the situation (I was in Oregon). I asked if there were any openings for local intermodal. She gave a call to the operations manager in LA and found out there were. After talking with her he spoke with me, told me what the job was and offered it to me. My terminal manager and DBL agreed to release me. I was home in socal that friday, and started with my new fleet on monday. I like to think that 4 months of on time deliveries and consistent communication with my DBL is what got me the job. This is why I truely believe hard work does not go unnoticed. From what I've read, you should have no problem making the change at 4 months. Talk to your DBL about the position and they should take it from there. I wish you the best of luck.

Sorry I have been so busy that I just have not had time to read this forum or post in this thread.

I have been driving like crazy, getting more miles than I want, and have been earning more than I thought I would. In the spirit of the thread, I have been to new places, drove in the snow and ice, went over my hours of service, faced an 11'6 bridge, yada, yada, yada.

However, I would rather talk about the future than the past at this point. The Good News is that I have gotten a local job with Schneider. I will work 4 days on, 3 days off. I will take a $100-$200 pay cut, but my family is worth it. The Bad News is that I will not be able to start for another week , even though I was assured that today was my last day on the dedicated account. The ugly, well ...I guess re read the bad, lol!

I am not so sure that with all of that being said , if there is a benefit or purpose to this thread. I mean I will not be doing anything exciting, or write about anything helpful to the forum community. I will be happy to read the forums and help current or perspective pumpkins any way I can, but I almost feel like my journey is over.

Be safe and good luck to all!

Congrats Raid3r! I know how much you wanted the local position. While you might wonder about the benefit of this forum, like Tapeworm I am trying to figure out the trucking companies that I am interested in prior to going through cdl school. As a result, your posts have given me insight into the great pumpkin. I too, appreciate you taking the time out of your busy day to share your experience with us. Have a great day and take care!

RR3r... Man it has been a pleasure reading of your odyssy with SNI... Thank you so much for sharing. You have a gift for putting down what you have experienced, it makes your journey real to us wannabe's and pro's alike.....

Being a pro driver is hard work, and your pain and triumps make that read like a novel. I for one will miss your updates, take care of your family... I will endeavor to make SNI my family soon.

So worked my first week locally as a spotter. SNI was very concerned that I could handle 12 hour shifts and working 5PM-5AM. Hmm. I was working 100, logging 70, and being paid for about 40. Now I work 48, log 44, and get paid for 30, but am home everyday to see my wife and family.
I spent this week spotting. Something totally new in these trucks. I been in and out of the truck a few hundred times. I am figuring out the nooks and crannies of this plant, and finding and learning the reference points for my turns and back ups. I have always said that everyone I met at SNI has been great and very helpful, especially to a new driver. That is the case, and even more important in this facility, because we truly have to share the workload. So far I have seen everyone share the workload, help others by opening/closing trailer doors, moving jack stands, etc. , and have been received by the team with open arms. I am even happier now than before. I feel like I have gotten my cake and am getting to eat it also.
Next week I will spend a week shuttling, which is fine by me also. I do not mind driving, I just wanted to be home daily. Well I will try to get an update next week but wanted to stop by and give a quick post for this week.

Good Luck and be safe. Happy Holidays to all!

RoadRaid3r - Just spent the last 2 hours reading this thread. Thanks so much for your experiance with Schneider. I am 2 weeks away from starting my CDL traning and am trying to research many companys. I have been pre hired by Swift, Werner and Conway at this time but after reading all this I am seriously considering Schneider. I want to work for someone that I might consider retiring from as I am doing a complete carrer change from being a carpenter. My family has grown and moved on so its just my wife and me. I am an ### kicker and love to work, was glad to hear that you can unload your trailers and get paid for it. I know soo many lazy workers out there that just need a boot put somewhere and make them move! Lumpers can cost you!
Good luck in your new position and thanks again for sharing your knowledge!:biggrin_25514:

First off thank you so much for all the honest details of your journey with Schneider. I'm just a newbie that has a lot to learn. I'm wondering how you got home time in after leaving Canada. You said you got back and your next load took 15 hours to load. Was this load close to your hometown (Lima, OH) or do they let you deadhead or bobtail home if you can? I am confused and would love to know how this works! Kinda like free home time I guess.
