Ahh no idea.Still learning about it. Have to read the manual. Left it in the truck cause they took it into the shop and thought they might need it.

Nate, do you travel a regular route? Like back and forth to the cities area frequently?
Or do you travel irregular route?
You can get fuel and additives at the Petro in Clearwater, the TA in Rogers, at the little stop in Silver Creek between Clearwater and Rogers.
Or there are a few places on Highway 10 in ST. Cloud that have decent truck access like the SA on the East side of the road just north of St. Cloud Freightliner.
I think that there is a travel plaza or at least a fueling station with truck access at the bypass for Brainerd\Baxter but its been a few years since I have been up that way. -
Yeah, same route. Crookston to Savage and back again. I stop in Clearwater and fill up at the petro station often. Are the additives in the fuel at the pump already? Not sure were those other places are. I refuled at New York State Mill once before on highway 10. Would rather take the interstate, but got a ticket last time for being over weight. I can bypass the scale still but I heard they have portable scales or set up ones at rest stops and can still catch you.

The tow truck driver helped me out. I respect that guy, he knew his stuff. He didnt seem seem to be bother by the cold at all hardly. Im standing there shaking.
How do I know if its bio-diesel? Dose it say at the pumps?
I fuel up in Minnesota most of the time.Last edited by a moderator: Dec 13, 2010

Just add the fuel additive , the way the weathers been lately your going to be in the COLD quite a bit.
Are you equipped for the cold weather in all other aspects of TRUCKING ? -
Wind chill is what you calculate the effect the wind has on skin. It does not affect anything but how the temperatures affect your skin due to the water in our bodies, It does not affect metal or fuel. Besides the fuel is inside metal and rubber hoses.
This is from the NOAA Website if you were to google "What is windchill" What is wind chill temperature? back
A. The wind chill temperature is how cold people and animals feel when outside. Windchill is based on the rate of heat loss from exposed skin caused by wind and cold. As the wind increases, it draws heat from the body, driving down skin temperature and eventually the internal body temperature. Therefore, the wind makes it FEEL much colder. If the temperature is 0 degrees Fahrenheit and the wind is blowing at 15 mph, the wind chill is -19 degrees Fahrenheit. At this wind chill temperature, exposed skin can freeze in 30 minutes.
2. Can wind chill impact my car's radiator or exposed water pipe? back
A. The only effect wind chill has on inanimate objects, such as car radiators and water pipes, is to shorten the amount of time for the object to cool. The inanimate object will not cool below the actual air temperature. For example, if the temperature outside is -5 degrees Fahrenheit and the wind chill temperature is -31 degrees Fahrenheit, then your car's radiator will not drop lower than -5 degrees Fahrenheit.
This link is to the windchill chart. Not something you wouldn't want to know if you're a northern tier driver! http://www.weather.gov/os/windchill/index.shtml
Back to the post!!
Use caution with fuel additives with new engines that use low sulfur fuels! You can void the warranty using them. But if it's not a newer engine and you know that temps are going to drop below 20* USE THEM! Besides Howells and some of the others do other things besides keep fuel from jelling and that to clean injectors, filters and lube some parts disperses water in the fuel so that $10- $15 a bottle is well worth the cost and with Howells and using it regularly after the first 2 bottles you can start to add just the amount needed for what you put in the tanks and the cost goes down!
It's better to stay running and not sitting on the side of the road as that service call will way over run that fuel additive!TruckerNate Thanks this. -
There are additives just for the newer trucks. Just look for "ULSD"on the label.
Drivers prefer different brands. I read a test on the different brands and Power Service in the white jug won hands down. Using fuel additives/antigel in the winter is not a luxury, it is a must if you run up north. Usually it takes one experience like you went through and you won't gel again. One service call will pay for a whole winter's worth of additives.
Sounds like you are gaining alot of experience in just a short time Nate. Stay warm!TruckerNate Thanks this. -
Not quite. Im getting some warmer clothes now tho and a heater maybe. -
Ok because its not nice to be stuck out on the road and not prepared and I see many who are not , but have all the TOYS you could imagine and tell you its a NEW TRUCK like what could happen.

The Rogers TA is on the north side of I-94 just before you get to Maple Grove. Or on the same side of the highway as you are when headed home.
The Silver Creek stop is in between Clearwater and Monticello on the South side of I94, the same side your traveling when headed towards the cities.
I have stopped at both (used to work at the Rogers TA), but recommend the Silver Creek stop. It still had a regular lunch counter last time I was there (though that's been a few years).
The Rogers TA still has a buffet and lunch counter as well.TruckerNate Thanks this. -
Ha, makes me think of the titanic and how they bragged that it was unsinkable.
