I've owned my 2008 780 now since Oct 3-2009 and for the most part love the truck. Unfortunately, at this moment I'm sitting in a motel in Estevan, Sk waiting to get towed to Weyburn, Sk (at my cost) for most likely a top end or God knows what. I have 896kms on it and for most of this year can't keep the truck out of the shop. My problems with this engine are too lengthy too list, ranging from random turbo psi reduction to engine brake not fully working in top gear. If anyone has had similar issues let me know. At this point I'm so lost and confused with what to do I can't even think straight. All I know is that this is not how I wanted to start my first trip for my new company. Lord, give me strength. Definately NOT impressed. Someone has asked if it's ever had the cam done it... My reply is that it's not THAT old. Maybe I'm wrong.

hello. I work for company with fleet of FH with D13A/D13C engines (Euro-III, Euro-IV with EGR and Euro-V with SCR).
well. about '08 D13A - when u'll be to dealer ask computer guy to check the compression. There were toasted valve issues of '06-08 trucks related with wrong injector installation. But there was a greate recall and now I see this issue rarelly. It happensed with D9B (now discontinued) too.
Turbine pressure issues and redused engine braking torque is usually related with EPG.
if you use bad fuel ore operate truck in cold conditions soot deposits block EPG and turbine/exaust related issues appeare.
IMO: D13A is the first of D13 series engines. Now Volvo offers D13C. This engine is better! It is like a story with D12 series. The last D12F is the best, but Volvo do not use it. You can see this engine in Renault and Mack. -
i am driving a spare kw t800 as my '14 volvo 780 with a d13 started ticking with only 101000km on the clock. took it to volvo and now its waiting for a new cam. has anyone else had similar troubles on a practicly new truck with the d13 engine. the tech said it was rare but not uncommon but threee stalls down was onother truck with the cam out of it also.

You'll always run into things like this it seems. My vnl730 d16 had the injector cups go out at 80,000km.
