That's not really true. I heard on Sirius that the Discovery Channel Mythbuster show guys did a study on cell phone use compared to drinking and driving. They tested drivers talking on phones against drinkers with blood alcohol levels of .079.

Hands free made little difference and the drinkers did better on the obstacle course. Its focus to a task at hand that matters. You can't do that and have a focused conversation on a cell phone or with another person in the car for that matter.

There are a couple our there, BUT....

1.) Traps ter has to have users touch their phone while driving to tap in the speed traps.

2.) Cobra and Escort have $700 units that have iPhone interfaces, but you can't share your data with others.

3.) Radar A ctive has something, but it only works with one specific detector.

The project on KickStarter (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...radar-detector ) is open source, so other people can make apps and services. Also, it should work with most detectors

So if I am getting this right there has to be 4 wheelers with this devise hooked to their iphone and I have to have an iphone to receive it. And if this is true if i was in my 4 wheeler why would I want to buy a devise to hook my radar detector to my iphone I would not receive any benefits. Or maybe I am not understanding it correctly

Here is a link to a device an acquiantence of mine is developing. It is a radar detector linked to an iPhone which sends info to "the cloud" and is intended to allow other iPhone users with the app to see radar locations in advance. I think this device could also be designed to give scale open/closed info by incorporating a camera looking for scale signs. Take a look at the developers start-up funding site and give him some input and perhaps pledge him some start-up funding.

Bel and other radar manufacturers manufacture for both sides. I'm sure they would combat the technology. Besides, radar traps are short lived. It won't stop rolling radar either.

Just what we need is more drivers distracted while playing with their phones. Especially while speeding too.

You design a scale application, it's a $2500 fine to look at it.

There is already the 'Trapster' app that serves a similar purpose without the hardware requirements.
It suffers from the same issues of speed-traps constantly moving.
The easiest solution is to simply not speed :biggrin_25511:
