I got my cdl from a school and went to work for "blue truck" enterprises and I think I might have made a mistake my driver trainer was a nasty dude who liked to bath twice a week he had soars all over his arms and neck and he nor his truck smelled to great and to top it all off he was a diabetic who didn't take his meds for a week I called my sdm she just blew me off so I think driving a truck was a mistake for me. Even the truck which only had 69k on it was junk the roof leaked on the top bunk of the sleeper which is were I slept naturally and you couldn't sleep on your side because my arms hit the roof of the sleeper.my friend drives for swift and she likes it there what's the deal good or bad with them.Maybe i'm being too picky or maybe trucking isn't for me.And in case you're wondering i'm writing this from home because my sdm, trainer, and I got into a argument so she sent me home on a 30 day leave of absensce so now I have a month to find another company or try to find a b license job.Almost forgot my trainer pick me up in allentown pa. at 8:30 at night and asked how I felt about driving that first night I told him I wasn't comfortable being my first time in that truck so two hours later we're still in pa. and he tells me he's out of hours and I had to drive never showed me where the switches for any thing was or nothing just told me I had to do it.Am I being to picky or is this the way it is on the road.

That place simply sounds like the cesspool of companies.

It's sad to hear a place like this. I've had my share of bad jobs but nothing like this. If you can find another company and change without a problem I feel you should do that as soon as possible. If you can't then I sugest you start taking notes of everything that you feel is not right. Make sure no one sees what you're doing because it should be personal. But date and time all you see then next time you have a problem you use that to help make your case.

Im really amazed in the replies I have seen in this thread. NO not all companies are like the one you are in. That trainer sounds as though he has no buisness being a trainer. A good trainer would explain everything to you and make sure you was confident in driving. Dont give up on trucking its not bad once you find a good company. Im new in trucking also but I know that is not the right way to train a new driver. Did the company have you out on there range before placeing you out on the road? Read these forums on the different companies and you can find a decent company that will train you right. Good Luck

chalk up another hit for Werner...............

but sadly sometimes yes, trainers are nothing more than recent trucking school grads themselves that just got the "call" to be a trainer. but, you can do better. i'd say try swift if you can, but don't expect miracals there either. as for being diabetic and not taking meds, you're lucky that trainer didn't pass out due to high blood sugar while he was driving. your chances of being dead rise/rose each and every time he got behind the wheel.........

trick try and stay away from swift i was there till a few weeks ago. i did there school in nov 06 then on to a trainer in dec and then off to a solo career i thought. drove for them for about 4 months had a 03 volvo had a lot of problems with the trk. they normally give new students the older freightliners guess i was a lucky one ha. anyway i never turned dn a load was never late but could never get the miles to pay bills made just enoght to eat. ran a avg of 1800 to 2000 a wk. and from talking to other drivers when i was in the terminals same story no miles. u should look up on this site the defferent polls on trking co. anyway i finally had enough when i had to be in indiana 4/9/07 had been sitting in a terminal the week before waiting for repairs. finally on the 5th they said could not fix water pump leak and manafold leak for about another week. told my dm what they said he said to take a 900 mile trip up to rockford ill no problem i coulod have made it on time but what happens if i brk dn on the way when i had a courtdate concerning my son on the 9th he said look at it this way if u brk dn at least u will be on your way to indiana. so i left the keys at the terminal. and did the court thing and now im with marten trucking and it seems to be a nice place to work getting the miles, the trks are nice and the trailers are in pretty good shape. if u have any q on swift or marten let me know and i will try to help. rick

Nope. not all company are the same but if you ask me if Swift is bad I would assure you that 98% would say they are really bad. Dont even think about it PERIOD!!!! Try May Trucking if ur from west coast or tell me otherwise i'm not a recuriting agent. My training was great; if you find ur trainer to be a prick tell the manager at once if they dont listen tell the upper manager if he/she stills dont care tell the CEO if they dont care than ignore that company. Trust me May is a nice plzce to start take my word for granted. Or try the followings CRST, Martin(however no hometime), Interstate, Knight<but dont go to their lease programe>

I don't think CRST is the place for someone who just got the truck scared out of him. CRST is a team-heavy company. They will throw you into a truck with whoever needs a partner, their equipment is junk, and they don't care about you. Also they will "allow" you to go solo... But they drop you down to 22cpm to do it!

This was the gist of what I have heard from every CRST driver I have met.
