I haven't been to Missouri since I was in training with a mentor, so I haven't had that opportunity.

Good luck on your orientation today. I'd love to know how it goes, and much more promptly then I provide updates. LOL

In all seriousness, stay away from the sodium filled crap Swift supplies you with on the first day, they do your blood pressure test after lunch. Believe me, that crap will increase your blood pressure by at least 5 percent.

By the time I realized that, it was too late. The BP was OK but awfully high for me.

I just finished posting about Day 1 in orientation if you'd like to read it. In the same section as your "Help a trucker wannabe out" thread.

Here's the title. (Beginning the Long Awaited CDL Process)

    Welcome back ORG!

You hit the nail on the head by saying you under estimated the personal side. Missing your family when you are gone weeks on end is tough. Thankfully today we have cell phones and laptop to stay connected. I can't imagine how they did it a few years ago- pay phones and lots of change and very quick conversations- had to suck.

Stay safe out there! Update us when you can!

Makes you wonder why Swift would give out sodium filled stuff before a BP test. They must know it'll increase the reading.

We had our physicals in the morning prior to lunch. Just shows how things vary location to location.

ORG, as you know I had thought about truck driving and went back and forth on whether I would do it, but the personal challenges were the biggest readon I decided against it. If I were in my situation of 5 years ago when I was completely unattached then yeah, I think I would've done it. But now I'm engaged and I know that my fianceé is not cut out for the lifestyle. Some say that if a relationship falls apart because of trucking then it couldn't have been very good in the first place, but I strongly disagree. The only way I would agree with that is if both parties in the relationship are truckers themselves, or come from a very strong trucking background.

I know if I had been a trucker I never would've met or gone out with my GF in the first place. She has put an emotional investment in me, and it wouldn't be fair to her for me to do this knowing the kind of strain it would put on the both of us. This lifestyle would completely change the relationship. She was even supportive at first, but thinking it trough I knew it would've been a mistake for us.

Another big reason I didn't do this is because there's one HUGE difference between us that I noticed, and that's the fact that uou said you always wanted to do this. I'll be 50 next month, and not once in my life did I consider becoming a driver, until some mentioned I should look into it last spring. I never had the desire or enthusiasm you had. My guess is that I would've made it through school, training, and then flamed out after a few months.

Anyway, you mentioned in an earlier post that you didn't want to give everything away, so I'm guessing you've got some significant news for us. Maybe you got a better offer from a better company, and are no longer with Swift? (just one of my guesses that are never correct :biggrin_2559:)

    Hey buddy!!

It's SO NICE to see you out here again! You really left me hanging with that voice mail that said "you had a story to tell me". Still waiting to hear it.....LOL

Call me when you get a chance. I'd like to swap some OTR war stories when you have time.

All my best to you and your family for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year brother!!

I can relate to this post as I just turned 43. I have a wife and two young kids. I passed my CDL road test after 3 attempts, but failed the road test at both Roehl and Covenant. So, perhaps I should have thought it out a little longer. Oh well, we'll see what happens...
