connex c.bs with freq. counters

I will tell you what I have learned in the 3 years I have been an actual truck driver...
Connex is the most sought after radio, next to Cobra. I hear most truckers say that a Connex is the best but if you want a Good radio, cobra is it. What I mean by that is, they are cheaper but hold up and will do what you need. Don't pay the $20 to get it tuned from the internet site you buy it from. You will want to find an actual CB Shop that you trust or someone you trust has referred you to. I don't have a Connex so I don't know what the best of the best is but I did hear the other night that the 3300 HP is not it...

UNLESS your trucks run at the very bottom of low band VHF the fm will do you no good.

 

The Cobra 200 has a built in freq meter.

I don't believe Connex makes a radio with a built in freq counter, but they do have a freq counter port on the rear.

If you buy a radio from Sparkys you get a free peak and tune.

What freq's does your company radios run on? Connex radios aren't even CB radios; they're 10 meter exports that run in the 28mhz range out of the box (license required to use the 28 mhz frequencies); you have to have them converted to run on the 11 meter citizens band.

Best thing to do is find out what frequency your wor's radios run off of, then you can figure out if they're work. Normally the 10 meter band is used by ham operators.

Of course it's a 10 meter radio, meaning it would have to be converted to work on the 11 meter CB band. Out of the box it only operates on the 10 meter ham band. To use it legally on 10 meters you'd have to hold a ham license. You need to find out what frequencies your work radios run off of. Heck what size are the antennas they have?

Yes sparkys is on the web. Sparkyscbshack.com. Sparky is a good guy to do biz with. He won't candy coat something and make it glitter when it it's not worthy...meaning if you want him to tweak every pot in your radio thinking you'll be the big dog at the truck stop, he'll tell you the truth if it will work or not. Most any other CB shop will do anything to get in your wallet, snipping limiters and diodes and such to get the big watts on the feel good meter. Sparky will flat out tell you what will work and what won't. Can't ask for a better businessman.

As for radios with freq counters...IMO they're only good for ssb radios (to help you get right on frequency) and exports to help keep you off the ham bands.

The Connex 4800 has a freq counter. If that's the one you're talking about, $400 sounds really high, especially if they charge extra to convert it.

I run a Galaxy 99, I love it, but they don't make them anymore, and honestly, they were overpriced. I don't have any experience with the newer Galaxy stuff. I do prefer the large meter on the Galaxy to the Connex, if you're still debating between the two. Galaxy does have a couple of legal CBs (vs exports) with frequency counters, and Ranger also has a couple of legal CBs radios out now with frequency counters on them.

Even if you found an export that would cover the frequency your company radios are on, you'd have to have an antenna setup that would be more trouble than it's worth to use it for both.
