Would it be harder to steal super single tires? Who steals tires in the first place? Maybe it is an inside job...

Walstib is right...sounds like an inside job. Happened the night the security guard was off. And, crack heads would sell the tools of their trade.
    Look inside!

I aggree with you, no humor in that. Most of the victims Installed their tires a few days prior. and they anit those cheap chinese knockoff's they were Firestones, Michellins, Toyo, and Yokohamas they been stealing. And those single lug nut types too. its easier for them to take 10 nuts off than to take 10 nuts and 10 caps. They hired another guard so he can rotate with the current one bot were instructed to shot to kill:biggrin_25519:

Although another Longhaul dirver noticed his tires were marked on Monday so perhaps he's next, He's already on high alert along as the rest of us.

Yeah it sounds like the guy who comes to install tires might tell his friends. The only problem is there's one entrance to the yard, and they are taking them thru the back side of the lot. There is a lot of trees but we followed the tracks they left and its a bit of a walk.

I am designing some sort of ring and lock system, I have it drawn up already and a prototype should be out soon. I am surprised eaton hasnt came up with some sort of wheel lock.

but for now I will be adding a few nuts on my wheels and grinding them out a bit. They are using hand tools to remove the tires.

Starting to sound like it is the tire and wheel guy and buddies. Making a fortune by installing and re-selling the tires to someone else. Heck a brand new tire and aluminum rim could easily go for a grand. Depending on the brand and quality of the rim.

A couple of years ago that happened to the Peterbilt Dealer hers. 3 new 379's sitting on blocks with all the wheels/tires gone. I don't think they ever caught the guy/guys. Sad to say but whoever is buying this stuff knows it is hot.

Well shoot, if you could get $1000 for brand new tires and rims each. Thirty of them gives you $30 Grand tax free for a good nights work. That's enough for some people to live a year. Pretty sad, but, I feel we are going to be seeing more and more of this in the near future.

We have fitted most of our trucks with "lock nuts".
One nut that is different and needs a specific socket.
With out this "key socket" you need a cutting torch to get it off.

I agree.. If they steal tires and rims from a truck you are looking at least $8000 for new tires and rims and loss of work.

do you happen to have a link to it or where did you get them at?

so far I have made a shim type of nut with some pilot holes drilled on so I can tighten it, first I am making them out of wood cause metal is expensive :D but I have yet to find a lock that will clear the shim. All I have to do is thread the shim and find the lock.

And those 30 tires and wheels swipe did not happen overnight it started around Mid November and untill now the count is 30.

They say necessity is the mother of invention.
I run a small trucking company in South Africa.
We ran for 15 years before our first theft of a wheel.
Then the odd one or two a year.Last year about 50 over three occasions , all with in 6 months.
    These things do work.
These company's are all in South Africa but could ship to you I expect.
If you are not familiar with items made in South Africa you can rest assured that there are top quality products made here. Caterpillar, Deer,Mercedes, BMW,GM to name a few have critical metallurgic items manufactured here. There are also some poor quality but not as poor as some items from India or China.
I don't know if they are available in the states but any good engineering/machine shop with 3 axis cnc machines. With bit of design capability , metallurgic expertise and heat treatment capability could produce them.

I would be willing to export them but all depends on volume.

See below , there are many more suppliers here.

Can't post a link but if you copy and past these in you browser it should work.

    A $ = about 7 South African rands.
