I know you guys get a zillion questions like this so I appreciate your time. Thank you!
I've had 3 tickets in the last 4 years. The first one was either Dec. 06 or Jan 07 for speeding. I think I was going 45 in a 35.
The second was running a stop sign in may/june of 08.
The last one was just last july for improper left turn. I almost hit a car while making a left turn.
The good thing is I have NO ACCIDENTS.
How much trouble will I have getting a trucking job?
question about record

Dang,,,I will let the more experienced give you hard time, for they will.
Anyway, I don't have enough time in the world of Trucking to tell you won't/cant get a job driving a truck but from what I know, you will have a hard time, period.
You really need to step back and figure out a way to stop getting tickets or you won't ever drive again...Trucking aint no joke, these days.
SheepDogSweetSouthernRide, ursus and American-Trucker Thank this. -
Thats some good Advise right there /\/\/\/\.
If I were you I'd wait 2 or 3 years then try to get your CDL.
American TruckerSheepDog Thanks this. -
Dieselgypsy has it pretty much right on. With 3 tickets in four years you will have a hard time in the industry. There are a lot of drivers out there right now between the ones that ended up without jobs because of companies closing down in the last couple of years (over 3000 in 2008 ) and all of the people that have been coming into the industry because they can't find jobs elsewhere.

on another note... i'm not sure I would want to share the road with you in a larger vehicle... yeh, try that not getting a ticket by driving right thing first. -
right now, not even having your CDL you may have a tough time getting employment. i would do as suggested above....STAY CLEAN.....NO MORE tickets, NO accidents.......(even though you don't have any now)......
apply to trucking schools when the 2008 ticket is older......like in june/july......
right now, if you WERE to go to trucking school, by the time you graduate......(say by april) you may not be able to get a job, then by june/july, since you hadn't gotten a job, you WILL BE forced to go back to school all over again, costing you MORE money......
it's "the way it is"....... -
I had heard 2 or 3 tickets in the last 3 years... I'm still within that limit. I talked to a trucking instructor and he seemed to think that I was alright to go... I really can't wait. I need to get out of this house I'm in... It's done wonders for my self esteem...
-
If you haven't already,
pull a copy of your MVR............
get the exact dates and convictions, it matters........ -
i TOO am an instructor.....i would not advise you to do this till later next year.......and don't think that "you're with-in the limits".....
the trucking companies STILL have a FINAL say in whether or not you get hired easily or not, then that instructor" can just say something like, "oh well, they must have changed thier hiring policies"......
so do as you wish i'm sure you will...... then you'll be here in a few months asking why can't you get hired.... -
Each company has it's own standard on number of tickets, type of tickets per specific time period. Check out some company websites for this information before you get yourself into something that isn't going to work right away.SweetSouthernRide and Buckeye 'bedder Thank this.
