Welcome aboard. I too am considering a career change after 21 years in the aviation industry. I am in the planning stage as well. Went to sit down with Roadmaster Truck Driving School two weeks ago. Looks like a good training facility however it is hard to come up with $5K right now.
So far, I have learned alot from this forum.

That's a good start.

Well the WIA is a PIA, limited funds and they want to probe every orifice. Not to keen on that.
I have applied at several companies that run 24' box trucks, as well as big rigs, hoping once in the door can get company to train me for big trucks. eeh maybe!
I am also looking at Prime, they offer training and if stay for a full year training is free!!
Recent current weekly earnings per mile per dispatched truck were as follows:
- $1.469 for the Flatbed division
- $1.499 for the Refrigerated division
- $1.704 for the Tanker division
- $3,490 for the Flatbed division
- $3,645 (solo)/$5,950 (team) for the Refrigerated division
- $3,375 for the Tanker division
Once you're operating, you receive 72% of all line-haul revenues in the Refrigerated & Flatbed Divisions (70% in the Tanker division) generated by your truck.
Noticed the lease for trucks pays 70-72% of line hall revenue. Payments on trucks are 7-800+/wk # that rate would need to make $2500 - 3000wk just to feel like Im making money, is this realistic @70% lhr
While I would not lease till with co. for at least a year, to get a better understanding what im getting into.

I am in Wa State Seattle/Everett. When it snows here people go numb from the neck up
. The DOT doesn't do a great job of clearing roads. Lots of hills, and not really used to getting large amounts of snow. Am more worried bout some flippin idiot running into me. :smt068
They close I-90 for extended periods of time, so do you just wait it out, or go around via Oregon. Do you leave that decision to DM, are you gonna get paid to go around?
