well I for one am all for it. I use a bluetooth headset even when I drive my car.
I bugs the hell out of me to watch big truck drivers rolling thru traffic with the phone glued to their heads and one hand steering, shifting etc....
The headsets and ear wigs that they are coming out with are more comfortable and have really good sound nowadays. I didn't but an expensive one either. Mine was 70 buck at a peelot and it works as good as a friend of mines blu parrot or eaglexlsdraw Thanks this. -
I agree, Nik, hubby has always used a head set with a phone with voice activated dialing capabilities. The head set works very well, if you buy a decent one. I got hubby the blue parrot, after his plantronics died. He loves it. He isn't big about the in the ear head sets, so the blue parrot was the answer for him.
rocknroll nik Thanks this. -
I have no problem with the headset. However, why would they be against dialing a phone when all it takes is the speed dial button.
Just another wasted effort by the idiotic Illinois Republican Ray Lahood. A worthless person as far as the truck driver is considered. -
agreed medic.....speed dial is an awesome feature.......if I could only figure it out.....LOL. I personally don't like the voice activated dialing I had issues with mine if you don't say it exactly like you recorded it ....etc....it was more of PITA than anything else

U.S. proposes cell phone ban for truck, bus drivers
Measure is the latest move by feds against distracted driving
updated 12/17/2010 6:16:09 PM ET 2010-12-17T23:16:09
The Transportation Department rule would affect approximately 4 million drivers, who are already banned by the government from texting while working.
The proposal is the latest move in Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood's stepped-up campaign against distracted driving in which he has questioned cellphone use in passenger cars and "hands free" communications technology.
"Every time a commercial truck or bus driver takes his or her eyes off the road to use a cellphone, even for a few seconds, the driver places everyone around them at risk," LaHood said in a statement.
Nearly 5,000 people were killed and another 500,000 were hurt in crashes of all vehicles involving a distracted driver in 2009, government safety figures show.
Inattention was a factor in 9 percent of large truck crashes, which fell overall in 2009 from the previous year. Most truck crashes involve collisions with other vehicles.
Fatal bus crashes jumped from 20 to 38 in 2009.
Between 6 percent and 13 percent of bus crashes were linked to inattention, according to a National Transportation Safety Board investigation of those types of accidents between 1998-2008.
Many big transport companies, like UPS Inc and Wal-Mart Stores Inc, already prohibit drivers from using a cellphone while operating their trucks.
The cell phone proposal is subject to a 60-day comment period before being finalized.

Lahood has lost it folks.......the man has completely gone bonkers......
(Emphasis Both In Bold And In Red Mine)outerspacehillbilly, rocknroll nik and Dewboy Thank this. -
As one commenter stated on the Lockridge Report.....There will be more electronics under the hood and in the cab monitoring the truck and the driver than what the driver will be using himself....
Look for cams in the sleeper to ensure that you take your "10" in a short time to follow this insanity........
Our government hacks can't find bin Laden or curtail debt...but they sure have enough resources to regulate truckers......krash13ss, outerspacehillbilly, oh well and 1 other person Thank this.
