Hey smoke, b prepared to do it all as a rookie. Regardless of time in u will load everything n run everywhere. Boyd has a great safety department. Open door policy as well. If u gotta load ur worried bout don't hesitate to call. If after hours there is still someone to ask. If that don't work u should b able to all ur trainer. Just whatever u do, if u don't feel safe, don't move. Easy rule of thumb here at boyd.

And prize, sounds like u n ur trainer went a few time to loradeo. I've been couple times, enjoy the Mrs there but hate waitin to get load out. I hear its a lil better now though. Im gonna wait lil while longer b4 I venture back that way. R u back in bham for 6th week yet?

 

That's cool prize. I just kicked my trainee out as well. He will b there Monday too. I will say same to u as him. Don't EVER forget u gotta phone. N I know that age loradeo thing. I hated bein there bit I think everyone should do it at least once. Anyhow, good luck in bham this week. N tell Mr boyd in ur class I said quit slackin. Tell him his trainer said it lol.

 

I was the first tested at the DMV and did great. Got a 96.3 GPA in school. The school instructor said thats one of the higher scores he has seen. That made me feel good.
I drove Firetrucks for about 18 years so the vehicle size didn't intimidate me. At school we started training on 10sp trans. but went to 13sp. I really liked the 13sp. I assume the Boyd trucks are 10sp.
I am going to call "Pam" in Cin OH Monday and confirm dates.
I am penciled in for the 27th but that seems odd because I would (and don't wanna) be stuck in a motel for the new years. But I will do it if needed.
Are there a lot of trainers or is there a wait time for one. What are the chances of getting a APU

 

All boyd trks r 10speeds. Also they r in process of pulling all non-apu trks off road, so chances of gettin an apu is good. The training thing is up to if one is available close to ur hometown. If not they will put u with first available. Shouldn't n any wait time.

I am scheduled for the 17th now. The 12/27th, 1/03rd and 1/10th are full now. Full?!
Is there that many people trying to work for Boyd, are the classes small or no trainers?
I have a Packet coming with a bus ticket I guess and need to call for conformation numbers on the 13th. I have my emailed packing list now and realized I really don't have 2 weeks worth of clothes
Am I going to be rooming with a bunch of people for a week while in orientation? I am trying to decide if I should take a laptop and how to secure it.
Boyd pay looks good. I hope I don't spend a bunch of time tarping and waiting for loads. Are there any long hauls left? What about heavy/oversize loads. I am shooting for heavy/oversize when I am able to. What is the real average for miles per week? Thanks again for all the help.

 

You'll have a roommate while youre in orientation. As far as oversize, Boyd doesnt have many of those loads. Besides they dont have any stepdecks or anything anyway. Every now or then you might get a load of steel plates or rebar thats wide or long. Really not worth it anyway, in my opinion. You will definitely spend a LOT of time waiting. Waiting at shippers, waiting at consignees, sometimes you'll sit waiting for a load... You'll have some long days doing flatbedding. If you want to be home every weekend dont expect a lot more than somewhere around 2200 miles. They'll try to keep you relatively close to your house and you'll get a lot of short runs.
