You may be able to do that but I'm not able to do that, I go the way they route me, I stop for fuel where they tell me too. TD24

Well guys I must say Ive enjoyed reading all your posts and have been impressed about the way you have gone out there and have handled things while being a rookie. After reading some of Walstib and AT's posts about some of the situations theyve been in, it kind of scared me into believing that I may be better off with a trainer before getting my own truck. Soooo Ive decided to sign on with Swift Transportation, as they have a mentor program that I think would be beneficial to me and help me be more successful in this career.
I will still be reading this section of the forum as I enjoy seeing what you guys are up to, and my offer still stands if anyone of you are coming thru Las Vegas let me know and Id like to get you a meal and chat. I will start a thread in the Swift section once I get assigned a trainer and let everyone know about that experience. I know Chrlab had a friend (ORG) that went the swift route and he said he couldnt have imagined going out on his own after CDL school without a trainer. He seems to be doing ok with swift.
Im kind of disappointed that I dont have the balls to go to WS but I dont want to screw up and I feel I have a lot to learn yet before I can call myself a truck driver. I have to let Roxy in Missoula know about my decision so she can cancel my spot in the Jan 10th orientation. Dam I just wish I had the self confidence to join the WS shepard team right now. So Ill go to Swift for a while and then maybe I can get hired by WS in the summer.
Thanks for all your positive comments over the last few weeks and I still look forward to meeting some of you in Vegas or on the road somewhere....
the flying scotsman Thanks this. -
My family and I live in Avondale but I was raised in Glendale, What part of Chandler? My dad was stationed at Williams when it was still a AFB. Thanks. Take Care. TD24

Jbrake That is a good decision, Because if you come over here get up to Missoula and they see an ounce of trebadation(sp) you will be sent packing, This takes a good sense of self confidence, Maybe some of us has to much of it, I had studied trucking all my life, I have a fairly good mechanical, mapping and driving skill that I had developed from my other career of 25+ years, I am glad for you that you made the decision to go with Swift, If you ever feel like you need to talk hit me up on the PM, I have a friend he and I were driving partners at school and we have kept in touch, He went with Werner for the same reasons as you, He just couldn't see himself going out on the road as a rookie in a truck by himself, He is now in his own truck but is sitting a lot with Werner and is trying to decide to come over here or what. I wish you well, Keep in touch, I'm sure Roxy will tell you if you ever feel like coming over then to let her know. Thanks TD24
