If you work somewhere where several drivers drive the truck someone always leaves it in gear, and if you are not used to leaving it in gear, you better shake, lol. As for adjustment on brakes if service brakes are out of adjustment your parking brake will be too.

If that was true i could not start mine. Clutch pedal has to be pushed before starter will work.

I have read all the post here. Now, this is what the forum is all about. We can discuss this subject and not offend each other. Every driver had an opinion, and routine how they park there truck. We should on every post be able to agree, or , disagree, without verbally attacking one another. ALL of the drivers had a very interesting view on this subject. Everyone of you drivers gave me thoughts on this subject to think about. Every post was, Great. Thanks for all the Info.
dump truckin hillbilly, wulfman75, Rerun8963 and 1 other person Thank this. -
i have never left one in gear always neutral and this is the reason why. i actually saw a fella get his arm broke because the driver reached across from the passenger seat to start the truck. of course he had it in gear and it took off. he couldnt get it jerked outta gear and went to bail out because the truck was headed into the shop. when the door was bout in he tried to jump out and at the same time the door contacted the building and slammed closed. broke his arm and that was his last day on the job. bout got a few other guys hurt as well that was in the shop one managed to jump in it and get it shut off before it hit oil barrels.Les2 Thanks this.

if your air brake is a bit out of adjustment---your spring brake isnt going to be--its a spring--a big honking one --with god awful tension on it--your brakes will have to be #### near missing before the spring brake wont hold
if you dont believeme--go try and do a brake replacement with the brakes backed off but with the spring brake on -
Then tell me why when you park on a steep hill when brakes are out of adjustment the truck will roll, but if you adjust them it will hold.I agree with you there is a lot of tension on a spring brake
-
A properly adjusted brake will have the equivalent of a 60 psi brake application. That's more than enough to hold a tractor/trailer.
-
you would have to have all the spring brakes soooo far out of adjstment to roll that your service brakes probabely wouldnt work
-
Right...... but..... wrong.... i think?
If you back you brakes off and pull the button, the truck will still roll. The spring is only so long, so if your brakes are far enough out of adjustment the spring is basically of no use.
Someone else may be able to explain it better than I am. -
ok i guess i will concede--but you would have to have the brakes a way off to roll
but i do know a guy who ended up with a broken arm and collar bone --when a bone head in the shop had a cab over up--didnt check to see if it was in gear--it took off and hit the pete the other guy was working on--slammed the hood down on him
