    You do know they pay by how many miles you drive right? I wouldn't see it worth it just driving here and there unless you are doing it for the fun of it.

    I drove as a "casual" for Knight about five years ago, and hauled gasoline as a casual in Southern California for many years. Did some reefer and step-deck cross-country for a few other companies, too. It is a pretty good deal. If they need a driver and you are available, you work. If not, you (or they) try again next time. Complete flexibility, no benefits, and no predictability. I think it is getting harder to find this type of work now.
