man and mercedes engines are developed by MTU and in past lot of parts were same for example om403 and man 320 v10 are same engine also same rear axles were used ZF "Europa" same gearbox only significant the difference was cabin (mercedes used it own man f8 is same as on Renault Raba Saviem Roman and some other company´s )

anyway all diesel engines of next generation will be common rail...

Detroit Diesel designes now new gen. common rail engine family in cooperation with Mercedes and they want discontinue MPUI and PLD systems and offer CRD only... it is not all Cummins make CRD engines (ISL) but they want to make big CRD engine and may be they will discontinue HPI technology so.. the same technology will be used by Scania.

The next step they want to do - introduce hybrid technology on big rigs.

last year volvo truck tested electrically driven truck in Gent, it is Volvo FM operated in urban area. yeah, 200 miles from revolt to revolt is not to many miles, anyway it was the revolatinary step. So lets wait.

in 80-s Bellorussian Plant made trucks that used trolley bus lines to revolt and save batteries and there were 100 hp diesel engines used if batteries were low to limp home.

But with totalitar regime of Lukasheno these projects are forgoten, like many good things in Russia....
