Hopefully you have a CB! This is where you are going to get your best road info. If you don't have one, I would strongly recommend buying one before going any further.

Can you be more specific ? You can get into L.A. from different directions, right? Are you heading in from Phoenix on I-10 ? Or maybe south on I-5 from Fresno ? Or possibly, south on 101 from Santa Maria. How about northbound on I-5 from San Diego? You could even be heading in from the Pilot in Hesperia coming down the 15 and then running west on the 210. So, inquiring minds want to know, how do you plan on getting into L.A. ?

Google 'California road conditions'. You should be able to find a road conditions map of some sort. It will probably show only the main routes like the interstates and major US highways. It will help you out some.

Follow the link below...the Cal Trans home page has both a road conditions search box where you enter the highway number and an 800 number for road conditions...good luck to you!

How is this a newbie question? Why dont people post in the proper categories? Maybe this should be posted in "Truckers' Weather and road conditions"? Call me crazy but dont that make sense?

Well, he is a newbie! Definitely a newbie question!

Try checking out some of the webcams too! There are a lot of them out there. Also in your Road Carrier Atlas there are phone numbers which you can call and they will give the road conditions per mile marker. Not every mile marker, but you know what I mean!

You need to be extremely careful crossing the deserts when there is a lot of rain! Especially at night. Roads get washed out very easily out there and also standing deep water can be an issue. Keep your CB on and take it slow if you must drive through it. Also before rain squalls you can get dust storms. Never pull over in a dust storm on the side of the highway unless you absolutely have to.

Ca. now has road info by calling 511 anywhere in the state. Or., and Az. do also. From Flag to L.A., you're using I-40. There was some flooding near Barstow Wednesday. Any major Hwy will be cleaned up pronto, because traffic has to get through. Get on your CB radio when you cross into Ca. and start inquiring about road conditions. DO NOT be late with your load, because we need our toilet paper here, on time !
