Hi guys newbie to the mechanicals of the c15. What is an inframe?? is it the same an overhaul or rebuild?? is there a recommended time to do this or just wait till the engine can't run anymore?? I currently have 805000 miles on mine.
Also I hear drivers turning up their engines, does that just mean reprogramming the ecm to it's full potential or will mechanical modifications also be required??
Thanks in advance!!

Inframe means the engine is rebuilt in the truck. Most can be done this way unless there is a problem with the crank.
I have a C15 ACERT had the ecm tuned that is the best money you can spend on the truck. Talk to Mr Haney on here and get a PDI stage 1. You wont be disapointed, that and get rid of your stock mufflers if you still have them.Alanp613 Thanks this. -
Cat HD engines guidelines suggest overhauls be considered at any of the following:
600,000+ miles or 12,000 hours
120,000 gallons of fuel or

With an Acert there is a small amount of mechanical modificationd that can be done to make it run better. The big changes are reprogrammimg the ECM with a different flash file for more power and fuel economy. -
Maybe for a C-12 or C-13. -
CAT sez rods/mains after 10,000 gallons of fuel... 6 MPG=600,000 miles... which is about right IMHO... I did my rods/mains after 714,000 and they were still OK...not perfect but still serviceable.
My 3406E was done in the 600,000 the first time but I don't know why. It was done before the PO to me bought it. I just redid it at 1,616,000... -
3406E. 1.1 million since overhaul and oil samples are clean. -
Pittsburgh power does great rebuilds, maybe if you get on their waiting list you could get it overhauled when you hit a million miles. last I heard the shop was booked till mid february.
